Blue Dog chairwoman would vote against Senate bill

The co-chairwoman of the Blue Dog Caucus said today she will oppose the Senate version of healthcare reform if it comes up for a vote in the House.

Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.), who also voted against the original House bill, tolld reporters in a conference call that she oppposes the upper chamber's legislation, and she would not support any changes that come from the Senate via reconciliation.

"I will not vote for the Senate bill as is," she said, according to the Rapid City Journal. "I will not vote for a package of changes that would go through the reconciliation process."

The consensus Democratic option for passing healthcare depends on the House approving the Senate version as is, then using reconciliation in the upper chamber to address House member's remaining concerns.

But that strategy depends on a number of variables in the House. Democratic leaders must pursuade liberals that the parts of the bill they oppose will be removed eventually, while also convincing centrist Blue Dogs to go along with reconciliation.

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

I say NO legislation should be passed in any bipartisan fashion between now and the elections. It will not show the Republicans are evil....it will show what an arrogant bastard Obama is. While I do not trust many of the men/women in the house or senate at this time, there are individuals who are shaping up as leaders, standing up as patriots, and NOT following the RINO’s. These people are felony stupid. The reason the Senate doesn't go first on this is because they can't, they can't agree and won't concede. So option #2, the House passes it and the Senate will implement the changes.

It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to see what is going to actually occur. The Senate will rangle for a short period of time then off to the King for signature. They've made it crystal clear that nothing is going to stop them, do any House members really think they're going to balk because of a little promise?
