I disagree. I think the professor made his point about informants very well.

If I were him and found out which students alerted RadarOnline, I’d consider flunking that student or at least docking him some points on his grade. They obviously completely missed the point of the reading, and they aren’t supposed to be sending texts and emails in class anyway.

The prof could have started any kind of harmless but exciting rumor, if he just wanted to see it spread and prove a point to his students. This was potentially dangerous, he knew it would spread, and one has to ask what his true motive was in doing this.

I agree. I don’t really blame the professor at all here.

It was an excellent lesson, just got out of hand. Either somebody a student told or a student sent word out to the media, and I am sure the prof didn’t expect that.
