BOSTON -- Gay men should be allowed to donate blood and laws banning them from doing so are discriminatory and outdated, according to Sen. John Kerry and several of his Senate colleagues.
"Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban, Kerry said. A law that was once considered medically justified is today simply outdated and needs to end."
Kerry was one of 16 U.S. Senators who in a letter on Thursday asked the Food and Drug Administration to lift the ban on gay men donating blood. The ban was put in place in 1983, at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis and before modern screening and advanced testing methods for HIV were developed.

Is this the most important subject we need to deal with right now. Good Grief folks!! These people are stuck on stupid!
“Gay men should be allowed to donate blood...”
You can be the first recipient, John...
To each other.
We don’t even have to guess what could go wrong. We know, because it already happened.
Homosexual men are statistically far more likely to carry quite a large number of diseases, not just AIDS.
So, he's taking the position that AIDS is not a blood-borne illness? Perhaps that HIV is not really invovled in the malady? I know some folks make that assertion -- is it now "settled science"?
I sort of agree with him.....but.....allow that blood to only go to gays. That should fix the problem.
Donating blood is a “right”, dontcha know?
Do you need any better evidence of what they will do to people for politics, versus what is good for anybody?
In addition to AIDS, I have always heard gays talk about having hepatitis.
Poor John Kerry (who once spent a few weeks in Vietnam)... he’s desperately searching for an issue to be relevant. A few weeks ago he was trying to be the Jolly Green Giant. Today, he’s the defender of the Gay State. ;-)
It would be okay for homosexual men to give blood as long as the recipient is homosexual, also.
AS long as they give ALL of their blood, I’m okay with it.
“Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban,
...and there isn’t one little old blue haired lady that ever committed a terrorist attack in this country, yet for some reason they’re the only ones that get a cavity search at the airport! A-HOLE!!
All of them do anyway if you believe what they brag about.
They just lie and do it because they’re told they can’t, by saying it’s perfectly acceptable for them to do it now would probably reduce the amount coming in.
The look on that dog’s face... ROTFL!!!!!!
How many people in Canada and the US contracted AIDS through infected blood?
There are plenty of events in your life or lifestyle habits that can get you excluded from giving blood.
It even includes “been outside the US or Canada in the past 3 years”.
AND: “From 1980 through 1996, Did you spend time that adds up to three (3) months or more in the United Kingdom? (Review list of countries in the UK)”
:)
Everyday these wizz-bangs take additional shots at this country.
Will someone please stop the planet so I can get off?!
