Abortion scandal at Catholic University of Detroit Mercy

"The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it." -- Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood

It is highly scandalous for a Catholic university to have any ties with Planned Parenthood or to present the largest abortion provider in America as a “career” resource.  However, Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Women (NOW) are currently listed on the web site of the University of Detroit Mercy – a Catholic institution.

For example:

These listings are confusing to Catholic students and puzzling to pro-lifers nationwide who rightly oppose abortion and the culture of death.

Further investigation shows that Dr. Jane Schaberg, current Professor of Religious Studies and Women’s Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, openly supports abortion.  Her online bio states that she is a member of National Organization for Women and the dissident group Catholics for Free Choice.

Referred to as a "feminist biblical scholar," Prof. Schaberg authored a blasphemous book, first published in 1987, titled: The Illegitimacy of Jesus: A Feminist Theological Interpretation of the Infancy Narratives.  The offensive work argues that Jesus was not conceived by the Holy Spirit, but most likely the result of rape.

For example, on page 95, the book states: "...Mary, in the tradition Luke inherited, experienced a disaster worse than barrenness: sexual violation."

As far as we know, Prof. Schaberg has not publicly retracted this opinion. Her book is still available online through Amazon.  Yet, in spite of her unorthodox writings, Prof. Schaberg continues teaching religious studies.

Time to Protest

Send your instant protest message to Fr. Gerard L. Stockhausen, S.J., president of the University of Detroit Mercy.  Kindly urge him to delete every mention of pro-abortion groups from the university’s web site and ask him to consider replacing professors who publicly undermine Catholic doctrine.

Actually, I think it's important that colleges like this leave that stuff up on their websites. They serve as warnings to any actual Catholics who might consider sending their kids there.

Better than a biohazard symbol if you ask me.

I just spoke with a woman in the presidents office there and she said that they have no affiliation or connection to Planned Parenthood at all. She asked where I got the idea that this was happening and I directed her to Free Republic.
She thanked me and told me that she is going to look into this immediately. ?????

The “Women’s and Gender Studies” department is likely plugging PP without informing the administration.

I wonder if there’s a single faculty member or graduate of such a department at any university who is not pro-abortion.

I would bet that there is not. It has been frustrating to me for decades that the American educational system has been turned over to the radical leftist students who used to take over university administration buildings. I have never been able to understand why Republican law makers have allowed this to happen.

They have to understand that the system if manfacturing leftists who will vote for Democrats. There must be something I am missing.
