Attorney General Jerry Brown made it official this morning that he's running for California governor, putting to rest months of speculation about his political intentions.
Brown, who served two terms as governor from 1975 to 1983, said in an online video posted on his Web site, "At this stage of my life, I'm prepared to focus on nothing else but fixing this state I love."
He pledged in the video that under his leadership, "there will be no new taxes unless you the people vote for them."
He also said the state could not take a risk on "an outsider who knows virtually nothing about state government.'
"We've tried that, and it doesn't work," Brown said. "We've found that not knowing is not good."
Brown does not have any scheduled public events today.
Brown will likely be the sole Democratic nominee and will face one of two wealthy, largely self-financed Republican candidates, Meg Whitman or Steve Poizner. Candidates for governor have until March 12 to file with the Secretary of State's office.
For months, Brown has avoided taking explicit positions on major issues such as the state's budget crisis, prisons or schools, arguing that he was not yet a candidate.

not that i think Whitman (apparent Rino) or Piozner (no idea where he stands on anything) are a prize but it seems to me that this “moonbeam” is really out there. could this guy win in November?
One would have to be a complete moron to vote for Moonbean ... unfortunatly that describes the majority of the California electorate
Okay, so why support Jerry?
Thanks for reminding me that the 70s sucked, but they weren’t all bad.
...They did it once...
Yes they did and my fear is they will do it again *sigh*. We need to find a Conservative candidate QUICK!!
you must remember more than I did.. ;-)
Good point. How were we to know that we would one day look back on the ‘70s as one of the happiest times of our lives and that our future would be so bleak?
I would not vote for Jerry Brown is he was the only candidate running. He is part of the problem, not the solution.
That should not be held against the field of Classics.
I wish we had a Ca GoP leadership that saw the value in having a conservative candidate aboard.. the odds of them ever backing one is zilch..
Hunter ... McClintock ... to name a couple
Too late Brownie. You refused to protect the people’s vote in court on prop 8 and you told ACORN you would find them not guilty before you saw any evidence.
Besides you will bring in more enviro nut crazies and drain us even more.
And.. he was elected to the atty. general slot!
What we’re up against here is the meme pushed by the liberal controlled media:
Republicans baaaad...
Democrats guuud...
Until our dumbed-down populace chooses to turn off the propaganda box in the living room and stop listening to air-head celebrities, we’re screwed.
Hunter ... McClintock

Too bad they don’t golf or do they, huh?
Wouldn’t matter, they wouldn’t be the fta cat 19th Hole Lounge Country Club Clic Picks anyway..
Brown has the backing of law enforcement and their unions. So yeah he could win but we have stuff on him.
He is gay, ultra liberal, heavy tree hugger. He will join Al Gore and Obama just as Schwarzenneger has and continue kill off of the Golden state. It will be on big ol’ park run by illegals.
The sad thing is, he becomes the immediate favorite. If he can walk and chew gum at the same time, he’ll win in November. The sadder thing is, he isn’t the worst candidate out there. He’s the same guy he was in the 70’s, but the rest of California’s Democrats have moved way to the left of him.
Raquel I swear, I’m looking at your face. Just like I did back in the 70’s.
“He is gay, ultra liberal, heavy tree hugger. He will join Al Gore and Obama just as Schwarzenneger has and continue kill off of the Golden state. It will be on big ol park run by illegals”
And he will lose why?
