WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Democrats prepared to launch a final push on Tuesday to pass healthcare reform without Republicans this month, and predicted it could gain new support from Democrats who opposed it last year.
U.S. House of Representatives Democratic leader Steny Hoyer said he saw the possibility of gaining support for President Barack Obama's sweeping healthcare overhaul from Democrats who voted "no" when the House considered it in November.
"We're talking to everybody," Hoyer said as Democrats prepared to move forward on final passage. "Do I think there is a possibility of some people changing? Yes I do."
Obama is expected to announce on Wednesday his plans for forging ahead with an overhaul of the $2.5 trillion healthcare system, with Democrats preparing to use a procedure called reconciliation that allows Senate approval by a majority vote.
That approach, which can only be used for budget-related measures, would bypass the need for 60 votes to clear procedural hurdles in the 100-member Senate. It requires only a simple Senate majority of 51 votes.
"We're working very hard to get consensus in both houses," Hoyer said of talks among Democrats on the best way forward.

B*stards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C’mon deminazis put your ole john hancock on the dotted line. Don’t these putzes realize that if they create another entitlement, the entitled will seek leaders that can actually can manage something to keep their entitlement flowing. The desire for competency rarely works in the dem favor. Just sayin.
Tar.
Feathers.
In the end, I don't think they'll get it done. There aren't enough of them willing to hari kari themselves for Pelosi and Obama.
Either way, they have boxed themselves into a miserable corner.
Flush twice its a long way to Congress..
That's better
I hear ol’ Nancy Pelosi will strong arm whoever she has to to get this thing to pass.....she’s a Rahmn in a skirt when it comes to pulling out the stops.
Clinton tried to use reconciliation to pass his plan as well.
This is a dog and pony show to appease the radical left base of the RAT party. The leadership knows damn well that the central elements of the legislation cant be passed through reconciliation because those items are not revenue/deficit related. Byrd (who wrote the reconciliation rules) and Conrad (chair of Senate budget committee) have even come out and reiterated this in recent days.
Maybe she'll buy them with cold hard cash. Uncle Soros will promise high paying corporate board positions to all those tossed for their "yea" vote.
shes a Rahmn in a skirt
I could’ve lived without that mental picture.
To my mind I think Rahm would look better than peelousi in a skirt. I know he looks better than nasty in a tutu.
Not to worry. Reid said that Democrats have never talked about reconsiliation. Yeah right!
I’d like to compare how they’d each look with a nice tar and feather ensemble.
I still fear that the House will get the votes to pass the Senate version of the bill; the White House and the two chambers will be unable to get any changes all can agree on and, given no other choice (sarcasm), Obama will sign the Senate bill. It was approved in identical versions by both Houses, so it is ready to be signed into law.
This will infuriate a number of Democrats (in addition to virtually every Repub and Independent), but this White House doesn't care. Socialism triumphs.
Unless I am missing something (and I hope I am), I don't see the legal reason why Obama can't simply sign the Senate bill, as written, after the House approves it.
A cynical view, but, there is no honor with this bunch anymore.
shes a Rahm in a skirt
No Rahm in a skirt, but this comes close.
