This AP article linked from San Luis Obispo, California daily paper. Numerous other copies can be found on web also.

Title of print article as in heading. Title of article from web page = "Calif. may ban cos. from using ocean as coolant".

For other related background, see http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-WATER/2007/July/Day-09/w13202.htm entitled;

Is that as clear as mud for everyone? good.
The applicable laws (which can be found at places other than the few links provided here) rulings, EPA statements, etc., seem to not only leave wiggle room (no fishy pun intended) but practically beg for enviro activists to continue pressure.

Everyone knows that sea life luxuriously thrives at the warm water output of these plants.

Californicide continues.

Less than a one degree Farenheit change, even for a place like Diablo Canyon or San Onofre. What idiots.

This state should outlaw environmental extremism and define environmental extremists as environmental terrorists.

These people must be insane.

They are destroying California bit by bit. I hope they are happy with what they create because in the end it will not be pretty.

to stop power companies from vacuuming the ocean for water

Vacuming water? Oh please, they act like the power plant employees are dragging a hose across the bottom of the ocean to do as much damage as possible. Environ Wakos take note, it is an intake pipe that has screen across it.

“Vacuuming”? that’s pretty misleading right there.

The other week I was down in Tampa Bay and went to see the poewrplant where tons of manatees and rays gather to bask in the warmer water there. They even have observation decks set up.

I made sure to say - in an easily overhearable voice when we were leaving “ I guess in a green utopia these guys could just go shiver”. :)

They believe that nothing that man does is capable of benefiting the environment. They are anti-human, and they are incapable of understanding how some of our constructs actually help wildlife by providing things, such as warmth, that were not there prior.

These people should be isolated, humiliated, and then run out of town Alynski style.

The “Environmentalists” have always had subversive purposes. The tree huggers get along much better with birch bark than with mankind. It is a serious personality disorder.

Good, let them ban it, and then watch the state go dark.

Environmentalists said the practice destroys too much sea life

Just who are these environmentalists? Do they have names? Are they part of some organization or just individual lunatics? The madness goes on.

Waste heat could be used for saltwater evaporation, providing more rain to farmers and more hydro power. Nature does this with waste heat but technology could be used to maximize the effect. Much less water from the ocean would be needed compared to traditional cooling.

No problem. Let’s just cut the power to San Luis Obispo and let them use wind mills and solar panels for their power.

Environmentalists said the practice destroys too much sea life,

It should be incumbent upon them to prove it, and show at what point "too much" is reached and prove that it has been exceeded.
