I think there are quieter ways to rectify the problem. Shotguns are for making a statement.

My neighbor does that with raccoons. Traps them then holds the cage under water till the movement stops.

Easier to just shoot ‘em. The report of .22 shorts don’t bother the neighbors overmuch.
