We Can’t Wish Away Climate Change [Al Gore Responds: Wishes "Climate Crisis Were An Illusion"]

OP-ED CONTRIBUTOR We Can’t Wish Away Climate Change

By AL GORE February 27, 2010 It would be an enormous relief if the recent attacks on the science of global warming actually indicated that we do not face an unimaginable calamity requiring large-scale, preventive measures to protect human civilization as we know it.

Of course, we would still need to deal with the national security risks of our growing dependence on a global oil market dominated by dwindling reserves in the most unstable region of the world, and the economic risks of sending hundreds of billions of dollars a year overseas in return for that oil. And we would still trail China in the race to develop smart grids, fast trains, solar power, wind, geothermal and other renewable sources of energy — the most important sources of new jobs in the 21st century.

But what a burden would be lifted! We would no longer have to worry that our grandchildren would one day look back on us as a criminal generation that had selfishly and blithely ignored clear warnings that their fate was in our hands. We could instead celebrate the naysayers who had doggedly persisted in proving that every major National Academy of Sciences report on climate change had simply made a huge mistake.

I, for one, genuinely wish that the climate crisis were an illusion.

This infantile screed could have been cobbled together by any 7th grader cutting and pasting defensive talking points from recent AGW apologetic in the MSM.

the overwhelming consensus on global warming remains unchanged

Sure it doesn't, Al. Sure it doesn't.

Similarly, even though climate deniers have speciously argued for several years that there has been no warming in the last decade, scientists confirmed last month that the last 10 years were the hottest decade since modern records have been kept.

Will you excuse us Al if we laugh hysterically if your link to support this claim takes to a sermon by James Hansen; You know the same disinterested objective scientist that says "deniers" should be tried for crimes against humanity and strung up, or some some such nonsense? And hasn't this NASA organization lead by this zealot been found to be fiddling with the data just a bit lately? Wonder which way their errors go.

...yet scientists have long pointed out that warmer global temperatures have been increasing the rate of evaporation from the oceans, putting significantly more moisture into the atmosphere — thus causing heavier downfalls of both rain and snow in particular regions, including the Northeastern United States.

Wow. That's deep, man. And sort of contradictory to:

Droughts are getting longer and deeper in many mid-continent regions

Isn't it?

Isn't the atmosphere just teaming with moisture due to all that evaporation? And while we're on the topic, is increased moisture a provide a positive or negative feedback?

Face it, Al. Your little dog and pony show is over. You have nothing to look forward to but infamy and humiliation as the world ignores your silly little theory and fails to come to an end.

I think algore's right in this case. No one can "wish away" climate change.

However, we can certainly prove that mankind has little or nothing to do with climate change by using the scientific method.

It is a crying shame that algore....sadly in need of funds and adulation due to being a constant loser and crook....needed to "wish" human caused climate change into existence in the first place.

More's the pity!

Gore is done in by his own environmental hypocrisy. It is hard to credibly advocate for the rest of the world to move their standard of living back 75 years when you live in an energy hog mansion, have a million dollar house boat, travel exclusively by private jet and are ferried by limos at every speaking trip. Gore calling on us to change our lives to save the planet would be like John the Baptist coming forth from a palace carried on a litter by slaves and dressed in silks and gold and then calling on people to repent.

I agree with you that Al Gore should be in prison...at the very least. The fact that the NY Times ran his editorial today would save him from going to a mental institution. I believe that he is criminally insane.
I never understood how half of the population voted for this blowhard in 2000, especially after the spectacle of the Clinton administration.
Al Gore knowingly lied to millions of children about the impact of manmade global warming while making millions of dollars on the side. He is the worst sort of criminal...preying on young children, scaring them with lies while lining his own pockets and living a life contrary to the very tenets he espoused.
We have a very serious problem in this country when half of the country would vote for the conmen and women who represent the Democratic party. The Clintons, Gore, Edwards and Obama are the personification of lies and deceit and yet half of our country cannot see that.

This is the idiocy of the left on full display. Al Gore suddenly realizes that his profits will be down if you don’t somehow believe that despite the record cold temps the massive blizzards and snowfall that man and his carbon footprint are somehow to blame.

The left has sold their soul in the religion of global warming. I demand seperation of their church of global warming from the state before we are all called to tithe to their godless religion

What’s a “climate denier?” Are there people out there who actually deny that there is such a thing as climate? Al Gore’s an idiot as well as a fear-monger. With a spokesman like Gore, it’s no wonder the once nobel profession of science is facing a credibility crisis.

Just think about the Southpark episode with Algore saying “I’m super serial” while reading this.
