Is North Seattle too...Homogenous? (Seattle liberal worries that her neighborhood is too white)

To ease her “white guilt” I’m sure she could find a home in Rainer Valley, White Center, SkyLine or Tacoma’a Hilltop.

My last blog post listed some reasons why I love North Seattle – most of them having to do with the "small town" feel I've encountered. The people are so nice … we are just barely experiencing the townhome craze other neighborhoods are grappling with … neighbors invite you into their home for social events.

Well hell's bells, you can get rid of all that bourgeois safety and neighborliness and white privilege in a great big hurry if you really want to. I suspect there are places right there in Seattle where you can get out from under the crushing burden of white-bread conformity on your first walk around the block, and if not, almost any other big city will do. I suspect that your nice pleasant neighbors like their "small town feel" fine just the way it is. Why don't you leave them alone and move post haste to South Central LA?

At that point, the three other guys at the table--again, all white guys--chimed in with total agreement that they would not want to have to spend time in any town where everyone was white.

That's when you say you never notice race and how could they tell what was so different?

I swear, every liberal twit in the country has wanted that. To be the “Mighty Whitey White God” to the poor negroes. It is a sick fantasy that has helped screw up both races.

Have you seen Avatar yet?

I remember when I lived in downtown vancouver with white liberals. That was always fun. They assumed I was a liberal too cause I had a hispanic gf.

So it kind of made their heads explode when we watched Bush roll Kerry in the 06 election. They never spoke with me again after that!

All this racial focus and apparent guilt over a “lack of diversity” in a particular neighborhood is such lefty-lib psuedo-intellectual hand-wringing, but mostly it is small minded and provincial.

There are entire regions of the world that have minuscule numbers of white people. Whole countries where whites account or less than a percent of the population. So what if a neighborhood in a city is 75% white. Don’t like it? Move somewhere where you can worship your mythical God of Diversity, and feel good about yourself.

EXCUSE MEEEE!

We don’t use the word “trailer” anymore. Its now “movable living unit” or “molu” (long “o”, long “u” sound). There are many of us who have lives in molu’s or still own them, and the term “trailer” is offensive to us. I still have night terrors about the term “trailer trash”. And, I can remember in my youth when molu’s were getting burned down.

parsy, who may move back into his molu one of these years particularly if he can find a good lake with plenty of fish and no molu restrictions.....

Sounds like somebody making a collection or talking about pets.

Seems in her color quest she leaves out the human, free will factor.

She’s the director of some grand play she has imagined, all would be great if only all would follow her directives.

She has a bit of that plantation owner attitude.

We need 10 poodles, 10 cats 3 birds 200 blacks, then we will have a fine plantat...uh community.

Pompous wench...

which was that there's nothing quite like losing respect for all of your friends, all at the same time.

Had a similar experience not quite like yours but eye opening with my then friends. Like you, I lost all respect for them and within a year had pretty much stopped hanging around them.

I don't require my friends to think like me in every way, I do not want to hang out with people I had no respect for either.

I wish the eyes of some of those racist liberal twits could be opened up so they realize exactly how racist they really are. Pining away about how there aren’t enough minorities around is every bit as racist as wearing a white robe with a pointy white hat. I bet this twit would brag to everyone she knows about having a friend “of color”—if she ever made such a friend.

Spare me.

People who aren’t racist notice their friends’ races the same way they notice what anyone looks like. Race only affects appearance, it doesn’t affect who the person is.

Did you even *read* the *book*?

The “cracker” woman was crazy as an outhouse rat, hornier than a cat in heat and did everything possible to tempt Tom into having sex with her, even to the point of physically throwing herself on him.

When he refused to oblige her, [and her drunken, white trash dad beat the snot outta her for being such a unrepentant whore] she took her out her humiliated, delusional frustration by exacting some kind of twisted psycho-drama, projection revenge on ~Tom~ by screaming rape and assault.

[and if the phrase “bust up this chiffarobe” doesn’t ring a bell, you didn’t even “get” the -real- point of the movie]

It was a good movie but a GREAT book and in all the times I’ve watched or read it, I never felt one single pang of ‘white guilt’.

That was *not* what the book was about at *all*.

It was closer to a fictionalized, historically contemporary account of an innocent but “unfortunately” black man, falsely accused and justice brutally miscarried due to the prejudices of *those* times.

I’m horrified by what you wrote.

I sincerely hope you self-ZOT that abomination of an “alternate reality” lest anyone from left read and repost it, elsewhere.

It’s an embarrassment to FR.

I lost some friends after crowing about Newt Gingrich being on the cover of TIME in the 80s. Contract with America, etc., I was happy.

Had no idea it was bothering anyone at the time.

God help the liberals if they ever start believing we of Celtic descent need “a helping hand up”.

They’ll draw back a bloody stump.

We’d rather succeed or fail on our own, thanks.

It’s a “pride” thing they can’t understand.

I’ve never understood how the blacks put up with their coddling, condescending crap.

I’d be mightily p*ssed off if somebody treated me like a feeble, hopeless loser who couldn’t stand on my own hind legs without the crutches of their “benevolent mercy”.

Case in point:

Dear hubby just had triple bypass surgery and is NOT supposed to lifting/doing anything strenuous lest his sternum crack open.

For almost a month, I’ve been toting bales of hay, endlessly shoveling our weekly 3 feet of snow, taking out the trash, moving the furniture to make him more comfortable and his stuff more accessible , carrying 70 pound boxes of stuff up our ‘stairs of death’ [old house], hauling in all the bags of groceries and dog food and doing all the “man jobs” he’s done for 17 years.

Big freaking deal.
I grew up on a farm doing men’s chores and this is nothing more to me than like living at home, again.
[I’m secretly *enjoying* the hard work. I feel -useful- and like I’m earning my keep]

He doesn’t understand that every time he bemoans the fact that he can’t help me or offers to help me, the hackles on my neck literally rise.

I may be puny but dammit, I’m wiry and determined and size of “heart” more than makes up for lack of strength.

If I *wanted* help I’d *ask* for it.

I understand his macho “misery watching me suffer so” [sheesh!] but what I want most *now* is for him to just stay the hell outta my way while I’m working and go *heal*.

Worrying that he’ll hurt himself is a LOT more strain than my mere physical labor.

And yeah, I’m tired and sore as hell but I’d rather die than show him that.

Maybe that’s why I just “don’t get” this whole “coddling culture” that’s sprung up.

And I deal with people daily in whose families, for as long as anyone in that family can remember, no male has ever had a job.

I saw the movie. I liked it and still do. But Atticus was in his own world. He was too good to be the lawyer he needed to be. And the rising in the balcony stuff was so patronizing it was pathetic. I did not catch on to that until much later in life.

Now as to some of the stuff I put in there-—yeah its a little rough but its how REAL lawyers would have handled that kind of crap. I read some memoirs of a Georgia lawyer and some of what I put in there is what I read in that book. There were places where the sentence and the guilt was based upon the need for free road labor. And the attorneys had to be realistic in serving their clients.

There was an adult - child thing going on in the South. Whites were the adults. Blacks were the kids. The whites had to sort of take care of the blacks so they didn’t hurt themselves. You know, like keep them from having checking accounts cause they just couldn’t handle it. In some places, black divorces were in a judges office and the blacks said stuff like “I divorce you” 3 times and they were divorced. And of course, you just couldn’t let blacks vote. They’d never be able to handle that responsibility. Blacks had to know their place.

Do you know what the view of slavery was in 1960s south Georgia? What I was told in grade school by a teacher? Kind of what was just common knowledge? It goes like this:

“Well, slavery may not have been a good thing, but its better than whats happening to them up North. Up there they have to live in buildings 10 to a room and they are broke and taken advantage of.”

Yes, that’s 1960s south Georgia, not far from where Carter came from. I could tell you a bunch of stories you wouldn’t believe. You see, I grew up earlier on an integrated military base. I went to school with black kids and it was no big deal. South Georgia? Oh no. There wasn’t a black kid in my school. They lived in their own part of town. Separate bathrooms, drinking faucets, etc. I seem to recall something about blacks and whites being on the elevators at the same time...Fuzzy there.

But, back to the story. Let me tell you something I have never heard discussed anywhere. The day Kennedy got shot. You know what happened in our class room when the teacher came and told us? WE CHEERED! We didn’t know any better.

That Neegrow lover phrase—that’s pretty much all we ever heard about Kennedy. Our teacher was crying. We all got sent home. The whole school. And our parents had to tell us that even though Kennedy was a -— it wasn’t right to kill nobody. And he was our president.

So is what I wrote an abomination? Yes. Only because its true.

She shouldn’t worry if her neighborhood is too white. She should worry that it is too liberal.
