Seismic shockers are to be expected, but planet seems to be more active.
SNIP
While the Chilean earthquake wasn't directly related to Japan's 7.0-magnitude temblor, the two have some factors in common.
For one, any seismic waves that made their way from Japan to the Chilean coast could play a slight role in ground-shaking.
"It is too far away for any direct triggering, and those distances also make the seismic waves as they would pass by from the Haiti or Japan events pretty small because of attenuation," Arrowsmith told LiveScience. (Attenuation is the decrease in energy with distance.) "Nevertheless, if the Chilean fault surface were close to failure, those small waves could push it even closer."

Awesome tagline. With that type thinking you could make a very good living on the darkside

Tectonic, Volcanic and Climatic forces are entwined always in a pseudo dance of defiance!
Don’t forget the full moon effect. Although the Haiti quake was during a crescent moon
” This was the first of three magnitude-8 earthquakes and thousands of aftershocks to rock the region that winter. “
“that winter” was 1811-12 (still not out of the Little Ice Age which went to 1850) -
The place, Mississppi Valley.
It rang church bells - in BOSTON! - and was felt in Canada.
They say it will happen again. “Some scientists claim that the so-called Big One will not happen on the West Coast at all. Rather, a surprising number of them argue that the next sizable shake might occur along the New Madrid Fault, probably by the year 2010”

It went down when Reagan was in office.
They don’t make them like Ron anymore lol
IIRC,
I have seen a 7.0 magnitude and above chart showing increases over the last 20 years.
I’ve certainly seen a lot of pro and con stuff . . .
Maybe the dramatic increases haven’t started yet . . . or have just started . . . or will be soon.
IIRC, SOME QUAKE geologist specialist asserts that full moon or new moon/black moon—both extremes correlate with an increase in quake probabilities.
Non-subduction zone quakes to me are more fascinating.
this will help out a bit. (folks, there have been worse quakes, worse hurricanes, worse volcanic eruptions - LONG before SUV’s - and the “gas” that we humans breath OUT, trees and plants need to live on - they breath it in and breath OUT the oxygen WE need to live on. This simple process of life USED to be taught in school.)
Anyway, here's an example of series of quakes 0 3 of which were 8’s - all in one winter - in 1811!

Did you feel this one?

just happened
Magnitude 3.9 - ONTARIO-QUEBEC BORDER REGION, CANADA

Ill bet Danny Glover knows.
With him it will depend on the racial makeup of the country. My guess is no
No, quakes happen, and we perceive it as something else. This planet has been doing this for billions of years, it happens.
Not the end of the world, not Jesus, not anything.
Just the Earth doing what it does.
I remember the Pons and Fleischman(SP) debacle...lol!
I wish Intrade would post another cold fusion contract around Pamela Mosier-Boss’s Triple-Track Neuron detection finding, but instead they’ve posted supersymmetry. Yawn.
NO - Of COURSE, 3.9 ISN’T TOO BIG
True but because of the granite up there quakes can be felt for longer distances....lol
Thank you.
Could you please explain what the numbers from 0 to 45 refer to in the graph you posted.
Here are 134 photos from Yahoo. What is fascinating is that many 5 and 6 story buildings are shown tilted and sagging, but not crumbled as so many were in Haiti (better building codes). The highway and bridge photos are very bad, like that collapsed elevated and bridges in California in the 1990s. Northridge?
You are probably referring to Reelfoot. In the great quakes on the New Madrid fault in 1811-12, Reelfoot lake was formed, probably when a Grabben Fault oppened up and dropped the piece in the center 20 or 30 feet.
