Whoa!!!!
Bush’s Fault, of course
A bit early. Not expected for another 6 hours.
There's a lot of time to film for "World's Craziest Evactuation Videos", land to refuel, get some lunch and then film the tsunami hitting.
CNN expert?
...hmmm
Surf’s up, dudes!
What a bunch of overreaction and exaggeration.
It was suppose to hit Panama at 8:30 am. I was going to drive down to the shore (about a mile away) to see this non-show, but I got busy with something important.
Oh wait. I just read where it is now expected to hit later. No hour, day, or year stated. (yawn)
This reminds me of global warming and the attempt at the H1N1 scare.
36 inches plus 3.6 inches = 39.6 inches
Close enough to 1.1 yards per meter for most estimates.
You beat me to it! I didn’t even bother reading the rest of the posts.
CNN expert - what a contradiction!
After seeing what happened in the South pacific years ago in December, being so nonchalant about it is uncalled for.
If they didn’t do anything and there was great loss of life, would you also not care so much?
You should grab a copy of Larry Niven’s novel “Lucifer’s Hammer”...there’s a part that describes a surfer who tries to ride a mile high tsunami ashore until he sees a 25 story apartment building coming at him like a giant flyswatter...he’s going up so fast his nose is bleeding, but not fast enough...
>>Reports are that one of the islands off the coast of Chile got hit with a 130 ft tsunami.
Has there been more than one Twittered report on that?
Color me skeptical until there’s something more than an endlessly repeated unconfirmed (and possibly mis-heard/mist-translated) report.
Yep...there was an idiot out in the 38 degree surf on his board when the 'snowicane' was coming ashore in New England Thursday...60 to 90 MPH wind.
It’s Bush’s fault!
CNN is reporting (as of 10:40 am EST) that evacuation sirens have sounded in Hawaii.
THANK YOU!
Just damn, that 40m crap is in Breaking News, or was a few minutes ago.
They had somebody on about 10 minutes ago estimating 6 to 8 feet in Hawaii.
It is wise to take precautions, but for CNN to stoke fear with a bunch of crap is despicable...The San Juan Fernandez had a 9 ft tsunami (very serious) and somehow the waves are going to grow to huge proportions by the time they get toi Hawaii. The great 1960 9.5 Chile earhquake caused a 13 ft max tsuanmi in Hawaii (61 killed so a tradgedy)...That earhquake was magnitudes stronger than this one so even though a tsunami is likely, one of 30-40-50 ft is not going to happen. To scare people is irresponsible
It appears the initial report for the Juan Fernadez Isles may have been waaaaay overstated.....
As is always the case in initial reports.....
No.
That report is a bald faced lie. Here is Argentine news service report..............

meter tsunami wave hit on Saturday the Robinson Crusoe island, the largest in the Chilean Juan Fernandez archipelago, following a powerful earthquake which struck Chile earlier in the day, the country’s president, Michelle Bachelet, said.
“A village on the island is half-flooded, people have been evacuated to higher elevations,” the president said, adding there had been extreme damage from the tsunami.
The 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Latin American country in the early hours of Saturday. The tremor occurred some 89 kilometers (55.3 miles) to the north of Chile’s second largest city Concepcion, some 341 kilometers (212 miles) from the capital of Santiago.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center put out a warning along the coastlines of Chile and Peru, and issued a tsunami watch for Colombia, Ecuador, Antarctica, Panama and Costa Rica.
Some 50 nations have been placed under a tsunami advisory. Areas of concern are the Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia, Australia, and Japan. Russia’s Far Eastern region was also advised, but local emergency authorities have stated that the region is in no danger.
