ANTIOCH, Calif. – Jaycee Dugard and her family have taken the first step to sue the state of California for lapses officials made while she and her daughters were allegedly held captive by a convicted sex offender.

Dugard, her two daughters and her mother, Terry Probyn, have each filed claim forms against the Department of Corrections, Rachel Wall, a spokeswoman for the state's Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board, said Friday.

Dugard's spokeswoman, Nancy Seltzer, said the family members haven't decided whether they'll file a lawsuit.

What took them so long.

This was a massive horror that the State,County and City could have prevented and didn’t.

Yep - California is great. Want some money? Sue somebody!! In fact, sue everybody. That way you’re likely to have someone settle out of court to avoid attorney’s fees. It is no wonder why business have left here in droves, and more are going to be leaving in the future. Stupid, dumbass politicians.

“We are simply preserving Jaycee Dugard’s right to file a lawsuit at a later date, if that is something she decides is in her family’s best interest,”

We have heard this all before. Bottom line, it is not the obligation of the state to protect the individual. Self protection belongs to the individual. The state’s obligation is to maintain general order and punish offenders. Supreme Court Cases out of Colorado already deal with the those facts on point. However, the problem in the People’s Republic of Kalefornia is that they have been interfering with the rights and ability of individuals to protect themselves. I can’t wait for the unintended consequences of being the Friggin’ Nanny to come back to bite them in the butt.
