House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday said that she is running the most ethical Congress in history.

Asked at a press conference whether or not her Congress is the most ethical in light of new findings that Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) broke House rules, Pelosi responded "We are."

But Pelosi dodged on whether or not she would officially discipline Rangel, who helms the powerful Ways and Means Committee.

After Democrats reclaimed the majority in the House of Representatives in 2006, Pelosi, who at the time was poised to become speaker, said "the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history."

Don’t worry Pelousi, you won’t have to be speaker of the house after November. I doubt you’ll even be a minority lead on a committee.

** Nancy Pelosi defends Charlie Rangel, again **

Speaker Nancy Pelosi – one of Rep. Charlie Rangel’s staunchest defenders – backed the troubled Democrat again on Friday morning, the day after news broke that the House ethics committee was planning to admonish Rangel.

“All I saw was the press release where it said he didn’t violate the rules of the House,” she said.

She noted that the report said Rangel didn’t know he was violating rules regarding a lobbyist-funded trip to the Caribbean.
