Embattled Gov. Paterson has pulled the plug on his bid to seek reelection, a source close to the governor said Friday.

Paterson will announce the decision later Friday.

Paterson has been under fire for having contacted a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.

The source said the governor has agreed not to seek election, but he will not resign - opting to serve out the remainder of his term.

The decision clears the way for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who is the favorite of many Democrats, to seek the nomination unimpeded.

Everyday for weeks now, Andrew Cuomo put a horse head in Paterson's bed and Obama sent him a fish wrapped in newspaper.

He's slow, but he finally got the message.

Great, just great. Cuomo has visions of being president. He will treat the job just like Hillary treated being senator.

"Cuomo has visions of being president."

So did his father. I suspect Cuomo's chance of becoming President of anything other than his bowling league is league is slim or none.

I never vote for Democrats, but at least Paterson understood the problem (or talked like he did). I don’t know if I would have voted for him, but he would have been better than Mario II.

Paterson was genuine. That’s why they had to get rid of him. The system can’t tolerate people who are real.

This is already the start of a very bad political move where troublesome Democrats and troublesome RINOs are successfully replaced by new Democrats and new RINOs, especially in the “blue states”! Ouch!

he sounded like he understood the problem - but his actions told a different story.

Typical dem - beholden to labor unions.

Oh, I agree, but it will still be four years of not rocking any Democrat boat, not going after public unions or entrenched pols. Not making needed cuts to entitlements.

Patterson refused to roll over and appoint Queen Caroline Kennedy to the Senate.

For that he must pay.

The really good news is the dimwits will have to spend part of their cash hoard.

Exactly - before this, there was a three-way race between two liberals (Paterson, Cuomo) and Republican Rick Lazio (who famously lost to Hillary Clinton a decade ago).

This move cost you dearly, New Yorkers. Glad I left the state last year.

Cuomo’s meddling brought part of the Freddie/Fannie wreck to its knees.

Cuomo is at least doing something about Wall St. and banking fraud.
