(CNN) - Mitt Romney endorsed Sen. John McCain, one of the former Massachussetts governor's main competitors for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, for re-election to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
"Senator McCain's record of service and sacrifice for America is honored by all," Romney said in a statement. "But I believe that it is his core values of courage, faith and honor forged in battle and confirmed by a lifetime of service to America that make Senator McCain's leadership in the United States Senate so necessary in these perilous times."
Romney said it is "hard to imagine the United States Senate without John McCain."

Romney endorsing McPain was more likely than the sun rising tomorrow. No surprise!
This is just a loan for a future pay back from McCain in the form of campaigning and endorsements.
And if you’ve ever seen “Willard”, that should creep one out in more ways than one.
Should you do so, try not to watch it while eating. Trust me.
I know enough about the movie to not watch it. I don’t do bug/rodent movies at all.
Up yours Romney!
Palin too.
napscoordinator: Palin too.
Not surprising that the Romney-care supporter in Italy still speaks
up forcefully for America's backstabbing fascist carpetbagger.
Just cleaning each other up for the cameras ..
“Progressive” is a term that makes them look good.
They don’t deserve to be made to look good.
Ron Paul.
She does not need defending her packed house’s when she speaks are the proof of the pudding ....you shouild realy spend more time promoting your own candidate and less trying to flame someone elses.
One hit wonder you are.
Palin-impugner for Romney you are.
Folks, in case you haven’t paid attention this is supposed to be a Romney thread and not a bash Palin thread.
Seriously, if you are a Mittbot, please try to convince me why Romney’s decision to endorse McCain was a brilliant strategy and why Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin don’t know what they are talking about when consigning Romney’s presidential aspirations in 2012 to the scrap heap of history.
Imho, Romney has severely damaged himself with the TP movement and conservatives in general. Sure he might have gained brownie points with moderates but in case you haven’t heard only at most 1/3 of the Republican party is made up of moderates and about 2/3 is comprised of conservatives. From a strictly mathematical point of view it doesn’t make much sense to alienate the majority of potential voters. Does Romney really believe that the TP movement which comprises 50% of the GOP in a recent Economist/youguv poll, is going to eventually give him a pass for endorsing their #1 political enemy, RINO McCain? if Mitt does, I think he is delusional.
Either someone quietly slipped a large sum of money to Romney, or he is actually showing any and all he is stupid.
With McCain as the Repub pick in 2008, even an Obama could win. With Romney as the Repub pick in 2012, even a...Obama could win.
Talk about weak Repub candidates.
Not a Mittbot.
Dont give me the garbage about how women can work and raise a family. The President of the United States is a 24 hour job. Its not the same as the Governor of Alaska. She will hardly ever be there for her two youngest children in the most important developmental years of their lives.
One simple question:
Would you hold a father to the same standards or is he not as important to the raising of his children?
(Actually it's more than one question)
.....Bush said when he came to Pennsylvania in 2004 to campaign for Arlen Specter against Pat Toomey:
I need Arlen Specter in the United States Senate!
How did that turn out for us?....
All in all, about as well as Bushleague himself did.
