Looks like it was some Mescan gang-banger wannabees.
Stolen car and running from the Phoenix police.

Why else do you think it took THREE rounds? An M-14 would've done the job in one. That's right ... a single round from an M-14 would have stopped the car dead in its tracks ...

A single round from an M1 would toss little flaming pieces of the car all over the immediate area.

A single round from an M1 would toss little flaming pieces of the car all over the immediate area. Here is a video of some guys shooting up a car with a 30-06. No flaming pieces ...

Set you up for that one ... Whole thing got started having some fun with "ExSoldier", playing on some of the ridiculous myths that surround certain military rifles.
Ballistics for M2 Ball and 7.62x51 NATO are quite similar (NATO round is a bit weaker).
ExSoldier's trooper handled the problem exactly right: multiple rounds into the driver, then get out of the way.

ABSOLUTE BS that they could definitely rule out terrorism so quicklyThe fools in charge rule out terrorism immediately no matter what. I think it might be tied to the liberal myth that Americans like to go out and kill innocent muslims after every terrorist attack. We should all be insulted.

Please don't be an idiot. Follow the thread back to my initial snarky and sarcastic remark about the M16.

Always. I just looked back to 107 and saw that the SP got off 3 good shots to the driver.

FYI...Air Force bases have Air Force Police.
My Air Force base uses civilians for gate duty, never their police who are too busy giving out parking tickets. But the civilian guards are trained well and do have guns. Not to be messed with. If someone tries to ram through a closed gate the base police would respond, of course. The civilian gate guards never leave the active gates.

I think I passed thru Ayers Kaserne (stopped for hot showers & chow) when I was deployed for REFORGER 83... I was a Manuever Damage Control Officer for that exercise.
What a great job! I had a jeep (M151A1) and an E5 german speaking driver. All I did was ride around and take reports when our guys messed up local property playing the war game. Then Uncle Sam pays. The local farmers even delay harvesting crops in the hopes that rotor wash from some Blackhawk will knock over some rows of corn. Then the farmer cries and the American army buys the whole crop and the next two generations of crops for potential "fuel contamination of the soil..." Makes a body wonder which side won WWII. While the troops were out huddled in the cold wet night, my driver would always find a nice warm, dry comfy barn for us to spend the night in, with a GASTHAUS nearby for dinner and breakfast the next morning.
Hey, your incident had an M48A1 tank? An old PATTON? Wow, that's REALLY old. When I was on active duty the M1's hadn't yet been fielded but at least everybody had M60A3s. Comparing an M60 to an M1A1 is like comparing a Ford to a Ferrari. But the M48's? That's like comparing the Flintstones to a Ford.
