Ward Churchill appeal: If he doesn't win, "tenure means nothing anymore," says lawyer David Lane
Westword | ^ | Feb. 22 2010 | Michael Roberts

attorney David Lane, whose other high-profile clients include Balloon Boy dad Richard Heene and wrongfully convicted Timothy Masters, remains Churchill's attorney. And he makes it clear that the case is about far more than Churchill's likening of 9/11 victims to "little Eichmanns."

The American Civil Liberties Union has already filed a brief in support of Churchill's appeal. But like every court action, this one has to go through a slew of preliminary steps before reaching the consideration stage.

In other words, the Churchill matter could remain unresolved for quite some time to come, even though the comments that started the pot bubbling in the first place were penned more than eight years ago.

If he does win, obtaining higher education credentials means even less then it did before.

Academic fraud means you are fired.

What is tenure good for anyhow? These days it seems to mean nothing except whoever has it is free to act like an irresponsible spoiled brat without any fear of retribution.

I don’t really understand its original purpose, but whatever it was, it has outlived it.

This guy is one of the biggest frauds on the planet. And Colorado is a good university, as far as it goes.

I remember reading that a Professor at Ohio State University makes so much money that they hide it. Only part of his massive salary is reported by the State of Ohio. I think he makes $400,000 stated and another $100k-200K from a slush fund in the central administration. He supposedly spends half the year in LA where he owns a place on the Malibu beach. And teaches 1 course per year.

Academia - massive fraud at the taxpayer’s expense.

Fake Indian Ward Churchill is not in the slightest of Native American ancestry.

I am part Commanche and I deeply resent this charlatan.

Damned straight, it is: it's about fraud, plagiarism, and several other issues of academic misconduct that pop immediately to mind.

Glad to see his liar isn't tiredly still trying to frame it as a "free speech" issue.

Attention David Lane:

Tenure is out. Ability and honesty are in. Your latest client loses on both counts.

I don’t really understand its{tenures} original purpose, but whatever it was, it has outlived it.

I do understand its original purpose and believe it is important for college professors to be able to speak without worry of political pressure. However, I tend to believe that people work harder and do a better job when their jobs are not guaranteed. Therefore, tenure should have its limitations, and most definitely Ward Churchill exceeded any expections of protection on the basis of unpopular speech.

If he wins tenure means total lack of accountability.
