California Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) chairman Ryan Sorba generated a media controversy when he was shown at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) denouncing the organizers for inviting a homosexual Republican group, GOProud, into the event as an official sponsor. In "controversial" remarks, Sorba said homosexuality was unnatural and that he welcomed more debate and discussion about the subject from his political adversaries.
But what many people don't realize is that Sorba's "outburst" was provoked by a speaker who preceded him, Alexander McCobin of Students For Liberty (SFL).
McCobin went out of his way to use valuable time from the podium to thank the American Conservative Union, the main CPAC organizer, for making the controversial decision to approve GOProud's participation.
David Keene, a lobbyist, is the chairman of the ACU and personally approved GOProud's involvement in CPAC.
Sorba told AIM, "I think CPAC went overboard this year. I don't think he [Keene] should be sitting at the top of CPAC." He noted that CPAC over the last several years has also allowed groups such as the ACLU to have exhibits at the event.
"What's next?," Sorba asked. "Are they going to have Republicans for Obamacare? Republicans for free abortions?"
Incredibly, McCobin of SFL told me that his group "is not a conservative organization" and that "We spent this past weekend reaching out to the left and the right at both the Young Democrats of America's convention and the Conservative Political Action Conference. We are not left or right."
If they are not conservative, Sorba asked, "What are they doing at CPAC?"
No stranger to controversy, Sorba is the author of the book, The Born Gay Hoax (this is a working draft) and was shouted down at Smith College by lesbian activists because of his support for traditional values.

Absolutely not. And you don’t have to engage in a witchhunt to exclude openly expressed views, as opposed to promoting active suppression of personal lifestyle choices.
If you brought together all the gays in America that conducted themselves in such a pristine political manner, you’d have just about enough to populate the town of Wasilla, Alaska. Until the generation died out and made it a ghost town.
Anyone who wants something more liberal than DADT in the services (except, perhaps, for black sheep squadrons whose non-gay complement is selected of those saying they explicitly don’t care) is a social engineering liberal in yet another guise.

Personal freedom does not come at the expense of a free society, it comes as a result of it.
Conservatism cannot survive if they allow organized homosexual groups into their organizations.
You keep throwing around the term “witchhunt” that right there is a display of how they start shouting down conservatism and branding it as harsh, and intolerant.
You are the guy that is pushing “gay Power” on freerepublic. It is you that is striving to move us left.

As long as they believe that what they do in their bedrooms deserves special rights from both govt. and society, they are not conservative.
Take DADT once they remove it. They will use it like a wedge to destroy DOMA. We will eventually be required to provide living quarters for their domestic partners special reproductive services (invitro etc.) and rights. That is just the tip of the iceberg.
Just like 0bama’s health care plans, there is nothing simple about it. Both queer rights and zero’s healthcare are an attempt to corrupt that which works and is good in our society. If you can’t see that, I doubt you are conservative.
Our school children are ignorant when compared to the rest of the world because the US school system would rather spend its time teaching children that gays are special than teaching them to read, write and do math. Does that make sense?
There seem to be so many non conservatives flooding this site today that I am astounded. I know that this is just the spearhead of an attempt by degenerates and their liberal pals to confuse and discourage true conservatives. But it still makes me want to vomit.
Conservatives want to conserve what is good in society to pass it on to future generations. What about deviant sexual practices do you think should be passed on to future generations? What about their bedrooms practices should cause conservatives to demand “special” rights for them and why oh why should we have to pay for them?
It is more homosexually friendly, they aren’t too much for the ladies, unless they are Andrew Sullivan type ladies.
The US pubskewl system today would rather do almost anything besides reading, writing, and arithmetic. Gay activism has to take its place in the queue, though it gets a few choice days each year.

This isn’t an issue that will leave the conservative groups unchanged. The attempt to divide and conquer is obvious.
Conservative is now fiscally and Socially conservative. These folks are wanting to be fiscally conservative but want the social conservatives out.
Once they get that power, they will want something else.
Duh.

In the 1960’s I was in the NY school system. They took time 40 years ago to teach gay rights then. They just did it quietly and without the special curricula they have today. So don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s just a part of health class. I assure you it goes on in teachable moments throughout the day.

Absolutely not. I am pushing neutrality.
And if you find my libertarian leanings expressed on drug threads, you will find that I am for conservative curbs on federal power over person freedom but not for handing out free needles and drugs.
Both recognition and suppression of homosexuality are essentially religious views with no place in government, while heterosexual marriage has secular, practical and universal exclusive bases, which I could go into explicit detail you would rarely find elsewhere.
Sure but this wasn’t about Gay marriage. Focus on the Family showed up and believes that the best thing to do is make arguments for your point. Others didn’t attend believing that protests are the best way to advance an agenda. I’m certain that Reagan would have attended.
It depends what your definition of conservative is, religiously conservative or politically conservative.
Personally, I'm getting tired of people mixing up the two.
