House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement in response to the partisan health care proposal posted online by the White House for discussion at the upcoming bipartisan health care summit:
The President has crippled the credibility of this weeks summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected. This new Democrats-only backroom deal doubles down on the same failed approach that will drive up premiums, destroy jobs, raise taxes, and slash Medicare benefits.
This weeks summit clearly has all the makings of a Democratic infomercial for continuing on a partisan course that relies on more backroom deals and parliamentary tricks to circumvent the will of the American people and jam through a massive government takeover of health care.
The best way to protect families and small businesses in this time of economic uncertainty is to start over with a step-by-step approach to health care reform focused on lowering costs, and thats exactly what Republicans are fighting for. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that the Republican bill reduces premiums for families and small businesses by up to 10 percent. The Republican bill reduces premiums by implementing common-sense reforms such as allowing Americans to purchase insurance across state lines. Despite their rhetoric to the contrary, none of the Democrats proposals including the Presidents provides this much-needed reform in a manner that can actually be effective.
Republicans are also standing with the American people by calling for health care reform to protect human life and not use taxpayer money to fund abortion. The Republican bill would codify the Hyde Amendment and prohibit all authorized and appropriated federal funds from being used to pay for abortion, which the Presidents proposal would allow. Pro-life Democrats in the House have already pledged to vote against this provision. Health care reform should be an opportunity to protect human life not end it and the American people agree.
Bold emphasis is mine.
SO DON’T FREAKING GO, BOEHNER!!!!
Thanks for posting.
Sweep ALL out or let them ALL resign and go back to their families. They only understand power. Its time to flex OUR muscle. The soap box doesnt work. They control all of the amplification devices. Its time for the ballot box. Its peaceful. Its powerful.
Agree. Boycott the damn thing.
The electorate has the GOP's back on this one. Their brief is to bury this thing, once and for all.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
President Obama has met and will meet with our country’s biggest enemies without preconditions, but he won’t meet with it’s own elected representatives without them. What does that tell you about him?
That’s what I was going to say, in fewer words.
Rush is on it now.
Well stated. The good-statist/bad-statist routine is getting old. We need a fresh start.
I didn’t see anywhere in Boehner’s statement that the OP(formerly the GOP) won’t go.
“That is why Evil ALWAYS wins - because GOOD is DUMB.”

Then drop their own plan
.
I am going to write a book on healthcare. It will be 2000 pages long and you have two hours to read it.
This is going to be Propaganda Fest 2010, with the media participating in this charade.
Republicans need some serious testicles for this Alinsky Marathon.
In a nutshell. . .I hope they can/will shut these Dems down and out. WE all must.
LOL/so true . . .
I suggest Boehner make the demand that they refer to the Republican plan (which should still be online) and demand that it be used as a starting point instead. It would be no different than what the Dems are doing here.
The only bi-partisan approach on this is to CTRL-ALT-DEL everything the Dems worked out behind closed doors. Crapcan all the payoffs, all the socialism, etc. Start over from scratch.
Great opening counter-attack John Boehner! So tell 0bozo that unless he & the demoRATs are willing to start over with a blank sheet of paper & to incorporate the Repubs incremental approach, starting with Tort reform & the ability to purchase medical insurance across state lines, that HELL NO, WE WON’T GO TO YOUR INFOMERCIAL!
I agree; the Republicans should insist on the precondition that their plan be the starting point of discussions. If not accepted, don’t go. It’s not a meaningful invite.
Better yet, just don’t go. The American public has had it with the healthcare infomercials.
They are on the same race track, but going different speeds?
They are actually on the same team? But just switch off playing defense, and offense?
They are a bigger enemy?
He hates them?
Heck if I know?
