My wife is very smart and nice (and conservative) and doesn’t get too worked up over politics of any kind.
But you mention reparations to her and she does a slow burn that begins to melt a hole in the space-time continuum.
It just ain’t fair to punish the great-grandchildren of the slave holders, much less people such as my wife (her grandparents came here from Ireland) or myself (my people came here after the civil war and went straight to Nebraska to farm and stayed there not bothering anybody until my dad left home.)
We have NONE of this crap in our families’ history, and those who do have not owned a single slave since the Civil War so they are not guilty.
What really bothers me this moment is that this seems to be a unilateral decision from the POTUS. Can he even do this? How can he spend money without a bill from the House?

He needs to be impeached, and every single damn thing he’s done as President undone.
Agreed. My ancestors came over from Whales and worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania. The only slaves in our family history are those who've been enslaved by taxes.
Why punish the people of today who've had nothing to do with it? The only slaves alive today are the tax slaves, and the only slave masters alive today are in the government.
Please understand that the overwhelming majority of Americans alive at that time didn’t own slaves either. It hardly matters when your predecessors came over. All this is going to do is make Cadillac the biggest car company in the universe!!! Barbershop, love that movie for some of it’s lines. Truth in the black person’s face.
Your wife isn't the only one. That's why NewsMax chose the headline they chose, even though this has nothing AT ALL to do with reparations for slavery.
This settlement pertains to alleged discrimination that occurred from 1981 to 1997. Now why did NewsMax leave that out, and then spend the second half of their article talking about slavery reparations?
