ORLANDO, Fla. -- An instructor teaching a concealed weapons safety class accidentally shot one of his participants in Orlando.
The class was being held at the Summit Church on Herndon Avenue, but the church was not sponsoring the class. The class was a NRA Concealed Weapons Safety Course.
Orlando police say Michael Phillips was teaching the class, when his gun accidentally went off, and shot Robert Frauman, Junior.
Frauman was shot in the foot. He was taken to the hospital, and is expected to recover.
South Dakota requires no class, no test, no firing profiency.
Fill out a one page form for the FBI background check. When it comes back clean (same day or next day), pay the sheriff $10 and he gives you your temporary CCW. About a week later your permanent one shows up in the mail.
Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.
>> No class should be needed, nor license for that matter ...
Good idea - why dont we meet at the airplane and Ill give you the keys to my B-767?
>> No offense, but that is one of the dumbest comments I have ever read here.
Well, thanks for the insult - you may want to cut down on the caffeine a bit. The point was that a class is needed to UNDO the previous training received by the student. Training? Where? From Uncle Fred. And especially from the TV shows that know only one place for Mr. Finger - on the trigger. I said nothing about “Gummn’t mandated training”.
Oh, and BTW, if you remember, the NRA was founded in 1871 by two Yankee generals who figgered out y’all couldn’t shoot worth a hoot. With over 2,000 students under my company’s belt, I can assure you - nothing much has changed.
Any students you’d have liked to shoot?
Apparently not.
classroom vs range: ammo at the latter, not in the former.
Ok, so why don't you tell us what the accidental discharge rate is in Florida among licensed holders and compare that to a state that requires no permit to carry(I believe that is Vermont of all states)and other states that require no training before obtaining a permit(I believe there are several).
Last I heard accidental shootings were no worse in FL than they are in any other state, in fact I understand that since the CCW was made easier to get in FL(1987 I think)the crime rate has dropped rather dramatically.
So what do you base your hysterical rant about easy to obtain permits being dangerous on? People like you belong at DU because you are certainly no conservative. When I was young, people in my state needed no class to obtain a permit, they could also carry openly. Accidents were no worse among people who carried than they are now. Classes are just another attempt to disarm us by making it more difficult to get a permit. Being required to have a permit is bad enough, having to take a 16 hour class(as is required in CA for example)to obtain one(if you are ever even issued one) is beyond the pale.
I am all for firearms safety but permit classes are an infringement on our rights as are permits themselves.
You don’t even know what you’re talking about. Some of us actually live in RTC states and know what we’re talking about. Don’t annoy us any more. Your ignorance is beyond cure.
It is unconstitutional to require a permit, it is unconstitutional to require a class to get said permit. Accidents from concealed carry are no worse in states that don't require a class, or in the one state that doesn't require a permit at all to carry concealed. Florida has a good record, their crime rate has dropped since being allowed to obtain CCWs.
Now, buddy I suggest you stop bothering "us", the ones who believe in the constitution, and quit trying to push your brand of gun control on to us, we don't need it.
All of our rights come from G-d. I don't think the use and safety of firearms is one of them. There are some that think the knowledge
of the use and safety of firearms are inborn.
One of TRs kids got an infected blister on his heel, after playing tennis at the White House one day.
Ended up dying from blood-poisoning, despite the best medical care available at the time.
LOL.
inexcusable stupidity and negligence
This guy must be entertaining at the range
I couldn't find airplanes mentioned in the Constitution.
Sleazy end of the concealed carry “Industry” huh? Maybe you want to clarify your position a bit. Are you suggesting that there are a lot of people in firearms training that are simply out to make a quick buck without teaching the information they claim they will impart? Or perhaps you think the qualifications to carry should be more onerous then a 4 hour class?
Yes. I’ll never be shot in my orlando. I had mine removed.
I'd imagine that a concealed handgun instructor would have a Concealed handgun license. Empty gun is a bludgeon at best.
But of course he should be all prepped for the course and unloaded the weapon if he'd going to use it as a "prop", *before* the students are allowed in to the classroom.
If it is an NRA course, wouldn't you think he got one from the NRA.
