The hit squad behind the assassination of a Hamas commander in a Dubai hotel tried to make his death look like an accident by electrocuting him with a bedside lamp.
Police sources said the killers, who used fake British passports, tried to ‘induce the effects of a heart attack’ before smothering Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh with a pillow in his room.
It is understood that the lamp was taken apart and the wiring attached to a device that pulsed electricity into his body.
An electric shock can make the heart muscles go into spasm, just as they would if a victim suffered from a heart attack brought on by high blood pressure.
Police said they found pills used to treat high blood pressure in Al-Mabhouh’s room.
The revelations come as the row between Israel and Britain reached a new pitch amid claims that the fake British passports used by the killers had been secretly copied by Tel Aviv airport immigration officials.
The Israeli ambassador to London has been accused of ‘stonewalling’ all attempts to find out how the killers had the passports.
But the Foreign Office has been told that all six of the genuine passport holders - all residents in Israel - had their documents briefly taken away at the airport during routine checks.

Funny how the story neglects to tell that the dead Hamas guy was traveling on a fake passport and the hotel didn’t know who the dead guy really was when they found him.
In the past the Mossad has used either a plastic explosive or a small-caliber bullet to the back of the head. Kind of a "calling card" to let their opponents know "who did it" all while preserving plausible deniability.
I agree that this does not look like the Israelis.

Arab rivals trying to make it look like a Mossad hit, is my guess. If Mossad had wanted it to look like an accident or a heart attack, it would have looked like an accident or a heart attack.
Trouble is, this guy had plenty of Arab enemies too. If the purpose was to send a message that enemies of Israel are at risk, Mossad would have chosen a target who was first and foremost an enemy of Israel, and either liked or ignored by every other party which could conceivably have done something like this.

That’s stupid. Assassins could not possibly spend hours exposing themselves to security cameras, break into the guy’s room on camera, and then think that they could fake the cause of death with electric burns on the body. With a little forethought, I could do a better job than that.
For example, if they knew his room, how about an RPG thru the window? Of course, this group would have tried to take it thru customs as a gift for their Mum.
The British government should do a better job making up stories. These are lame.
The Massad would have no need to pull a McGyver like this if it wanted to, say, shock a victim to death. A purpose modified Taser would do.

Guys, this was a Mossad hit. Plain and simple. It has turned into a cluster because they have all these folks on camera and their careers are effectively over. Why they just didnt car bomb him when they had so much travel intel on him I do not know. The israelis do not like this kind of attention, but ultimately it serves their purpose because the jr. death manager that will take his place will know he wont hold the position long.
Truly Israel has the best intelligence in the world. They still got the job done, without any other innocent deaths. Unfortunately they were back tracked.
It did, they didnt get caught in the act... they got caught after the fact by reviewing the security tapes. All of the team made it back safe.

that detail seems to have been omitted from almost every account I’ve seen.
So, why didnt they just shoot him in the head using a silencer?
