What’s wrong with whaling? I think SOMEONE has been taking Star Trek too seriously...
;)
So you stand for wanton destruction of living beings.
International Court of justice? What is that? Sounds like something as stupid, futile and irrelevant as the UN.
Look, people have been studying whales and ‘whale songs’ for quite a while.
Haven’t they identified a distress call yet?
Maybe instead of Greenpeace trying to ram large steel ships with zodiacs...
we could broadcast distress calls around the whaling ships and as in the old west...
turn the herd.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a tree or whale hugger, but do we really have to do this?
At the very least, we should hang it up for 20 years or so and let them replenish...
and not just whales,...
has anyone else read about the depletion of the worlds fishing grounds?
Do you like steak?
Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Super Twins etc. with all the authority they need to put the Japanese on double-secret probabtion.
Salmon steak from a stupid species that dies after it mates, yes.
Whale steak from an intelligent creature that would rather leave me alone, no.
Do you know the definition of wanton? Seriously!?
If you research the numbers harvested (killed, studied and eaten) by the Japanese, as compared to the numbers of whales in the wild, there would be no way that you would use the word “wanton” to describe the whaling that goes on. The amount of whales that Japan takes could be increased many times over and be sustainable. The whaling that happened prior to international whaling laws was wanton, truly, and unsustainable.
If you are going to make an argument against whaling you should at least attempt to formulate a valid argument based on factual information. Although, that may be difficult, because the only arguments against whaling that I have seen were based on erroneous information (like your argument) or based on emotion.
No, I’m just against Kevin Rudd’s advocation of taking the Japanese whalers to the ICJ. He has the same mindset as Greenpeace.
Whales are among the most intelligent beings on earth, and nobody really needs to eat them. In fact, eating our fellow mammals is probably not good for us. By all means, eat seafood, but eat lower on the food chain. It’s more efficient and better for your own body.
Japan will simply say, “It’s our CULTURE”, and to their mind, that will be THAT —finito..!
But do you know what DOES work in Japan? EMBARASSMENT.
So they instead need to get behind films like, “The Cove” in a very major way; Japan needs to see the world SEE that yearly massacre and recoil in shock.
And (though I dont’ know if it would be legal in the US) use Japanese symbolism, too, though it weirds while folks out:
When Japanese check into Honolulu hotels, ask them to sign a statement saying they oppose the killing of dolphins, whales, etc.
One hotel in Kyoto refused to honor some informal agreement to limit structure heights. So when visitors to a local shrine arrived, monks asked them to sign (a totally symbolic) document stating they either were not staying at that hotel or WOULD not in the future.
The hotel eventually caved.
The world is awash with whales.
Yes, yes I do. I love eating the flesh of former living beings... Martha, Betsy, and Anna all taste wonderful after cooking them up on the barbeque.
So, what’s your BEEF about that?
Actually, it is not...
you are thinking of polar bears.
Kevin Rudd’s cap and trade efforts were an epic FAIL! So he’s on to the next groovy environmental cause
Actually here in the Midwest we've designated the creek on the property a whale sanctuary where no whale hunting will be permitted ever. Those whalers better stay away from here.
Having done our part we return to our dolphin steaks on the grill.
Why should an industry be allowed to destroy a species to feed rich Japanese (or anybody) with a taste for the exotic? I equate commercial whaling with killing rhinos for their horns or elephants for their tusks. Industry based purely on greed.
Lots of people like deer meat. Why not industrialize deer hunting & serve venison at restaurants? Kill them to extinction.
Perhaps we will take a liking to robins, so let's eat them until they are gone. Not that we really need to eat robins, they just are cool to eat. And very profitable for the robin hunting industry.
Also, industrial fishing operations (including shrimpers) deplete fish stocks, & the gov’t responds by regulating recreational fishing to oblivion. My last fishing trip costs me about $60 per pound of fillets, & it was a good day.
I kinda like the whales, deer, robins, fish, & all the others. I even tolerate snakes, because they eat rats, though not to extinction, because they are not that stupid.
How do you feel about calamari?
Unless you are a vegan you have no room to whine.
