In another surprising step forward for the public option, Senator Harry Reids office says that if a final decision is made to pass health reform via reconciliation, the Majority Leader would support holding a reconciliation vote on the public option.
With more and more Senators signing on to the letter urging Reid to hold an up or down vote on the public option under reconciliation rules, Reid spokesman Rodell Mollineau sends over a statement signaling Reids qualified support for the move:
Senator Reid has always and continues to support the public option as a way to drive down costs and create competition. That is why he included the measure in his original health care proposal.
If a decision is made to use reconciliation to advance health care, Senator Reid will work with the White House, the House, and members of his caucus in an effort to craft a public option that can overcome procedural obstacles and secure enough votes.
Thats a fairly big step forward: Up until now, Reid, while supporting the public option throughout the process, had been silent on whether hed support a reconciliation vote on it.

Keep your laws off my body.
In short for the Democrats: Reconciliation = Desperation. And they'll get virtually none of what they really want.
Perfect. Or “The Public Option”.
BINGO!
Grab your pitchforks and meet me on Capitol Hill.
That's true. The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 spells out very clearly what can and cannot be passed under the rules of Budget Reconciliation. The so-called "public option", doesn't come anywhere near meeting those rules, IMHO. I really don't think it will make it past the parliamentarian, but anything is possible in corrupt DC.
"Harry Reid sharing a moment with one of his constituents. Which one is carrying the bong?"
The Dems are going kamikazi on this bill. They must be pretty sure that once it is in place conservatives will never be able to undo it upon retaking congress.
That's the thing. They already passed the public option late last year. The "reconciliation" comes where they pass a bill that would "downgrade" what they passed into something palatable for the House to pass by simple majority (after they pass the Senate bill, in quick succession).
Well, that's a certainty. For the GOP to unwind this abortion, it would have to take back both Houses and the Presidency in 2012. As long as a Dem is in the WH, the veto will end whatever the GOP tries to enact.
My question is, if it’s not to take effect until 2013, what’s to stop the Republicans from campaigning on a “WE WILL PASS A LAW TO SCRAP THE HEALTH CARE BILL” platform?
I’ve heard no one talk about scrapping it if it passes. Is it not possible by statute, or is it not possible because we won’t have the votes to stop it by our current 2010 predictions?
Trick or Treat!
There’s a very good possibility, that if this abomination passes, that it could be struck down by the Supreme Court.
He knows that he and they are going down. If they want to go down in flames, that’s their choice.
If you delete all the BS here, the communist dem party is saying that they think none of you pussys will fight our passage of a commie healthcare bill, and they are probably right.
Hellooooooo...does anyone care?
You don’t think he has 51 votes?
That would be my worst case scenario, with the timeline that they deal with cases on.
