There was a thread (I believe BEFORE the crash) that questioned if a statement was true. The statement contained the phrase “white elephant” and had to do with income tax forms and one’s signature on the bottom. I just gave it a cursory glance and moved on. Now I can’t find it....Grrrrrrrr
Understand him? You got to be freaken kidding. Timothy Mcveigh had issues with an overbearing government as well which is why he chose the target he did. You want us to understand him too?
Link is redirected now.
I don't think that's the case here. I think this guy is more like the background characters in Atlas Shrugged - the ones who just give up in desperation and go to war with everyone out of that desperation...
Commie?
“No. It’s just some unfortunate guy...”
Agreed, citizens are not going to war against the government, but I disagree that this dope was “some unfortunate guy...”
He was a selfish, murderous coward, and nothing more.
It fulfills his agenda. And there are hundreds just like him. They don’t care about their own lives—much less yours. They just want their rants heard. Don’t give them the satisfaction or more will die for some twisted loser to get his 15 minutes of fame.
Yes, Bush-hating, spread-the-wealth-loving, “free”-healthcare-demanding, tax-cheating COMMIE!
We need to understand this guy like we understand McVeigh, Stalin, and all other perpetrators of evil deeds.
“Understand” does not mean agree, or excuse.
This is not how mentally healthy people react to what they believe (and reasonable people might in part agree) is government oppression. But some unstable people do, and that’s worth understanding.
I only saw a 'tax-protestor' that kept getting caught.
My take as well.
He may have been politically left-wing, but not overtly so, and it was far overshadowed by his general paranoia and hatred of all things governmental.
People who work for the government are not the enemy.
Think deeply about this quote:
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
—Thomas Jefferson
So you’re saying that all the people who hold civil service jobs, our military, anyone whose paycheck is signed by the US Treasury might be our enemy? I hardly think that’s what Jeffferson meant.
The Left is going to try to say he is a “teabagger” and discredit conservatives with this man’s action like they did McVey.
It is important that at least some of us read the screed to find out what he actually said and believed in his suicide note to determine his motivation in doing this horrendous act. He flat out admitted to being an angry commie at the end of his screed. No tea party guy.
bfltr
Most of the desparate//crazy like this man just kill themselves and sometimes their families since the crash. Most don’t take out the government with them.
We live in a society that has only one value in common - health/beauty, wealth and status and economic envy. Everything else of human value has been erased from the public culture. But not everyone lives and breathes the public culture and knows there is more to life and to our value as human beings than material stuff. Therefore there are many desparate people right now.
“So that when the drive-by media tries to spin selected quotes from the screed as a “tax-protestor” (like those Tea Party extremists), we already have the truth that this guy is no right-winger...”
Do you *really* think that is going to stop Olbermann from running a special commentary today that blames Glenn Beck and the Tea Parties for this? And, more importantly, do you really think that will stop the lie from being repeated again and again until many people actually believe the BS?
