Elton John: 'There's A Lot Of Hate In The World' by Dotson Rader

In this week's issue of PARADE, Elton John talks to Dotson Rader about the transition from his raucous rock-star years to becoming a committed philanthropist. In the web exclusive below, the music legend opens up about the life-threatening downside of fame, his partner David Furnish and his take on Jesus.

Making early mistakes in love. "I'd always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I'd take them around the world, try to educate them. One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car. They didn't have jobs. They were reliant on me. I did this repeatedly. In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I'd taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn't intended to."

Love and drugs. "Just about every relationship I ever had was involved with drugs. It never works. But I always had to be with someone, good or bad, otherwise I didn't feel fulfilled. I'd lost the plot."

It's all or nothing when it comes to drugs. "For some people a gram of cocaine can last a month. Not me. I have to do the lot, and then I want more. At the end of the day, all it led to was heartache."

Why fame has lost its appeal. "Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, all dead. Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn't been famous. Fame attracts lunatics. I never had a bodyguard, ever, until Gianni died. I don't like celebrity anymore."

From Lady Gaga to Eminem, watch Elton John's most surprising duets

Remembering friends lost. "Every time I sing 'The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes' onstage, I say that this is a song written about a time when people in America started getting AIDS and your president, Ronald Reagan, did nothing about it. I get boos. There's a lot of hate in the world."

His take on Christianity. "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."

He'll never stop helping. "I set up my foundation because I wanted to make amends for the years I was a drug addict. People with HIV are still stigmatized. The infection rates are going up. People are dying. The political response is appalling. The sadness of it, the waste."

Finding new relationships. "In 1993 I went back to my house in Windsor for a while. I wanted meet new people so I rang up a friend in London and said, 'Could you please rattle some new people together for dinner here Saturday?'"

An instant connection. "I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner. After it, we consummated our relationship. We fell in love very quickly."

Keeping the love alive. "Every Saturday for 16 years, we've sent each other a card, no matter where we are in the world, to say how much we love each other."

Communication is key. "We've never been jealous. We talk about the sexual side of things, things that normally would have frightened me before."

Traditional American culture is in a sick downward spiral.

No doubt about that. And the evidence of it here is that. from his own words, he is obviously a rather unbalanced person, but his sordid story is celebrated in the pages of "Parade" anyway, which is usually a bright, cheerful, and light-as-air type magazine. I wonder where they'll go next?

And he still hasn't found the plot.

Sir Elton...

Wonderful song writer...
.....Gifted musician...
.....Charismatic super-star of the entertainment world...

*************

Please don't be confused---

Please know --
God is not confused ---

Neither is the Holy Bible unclear or confusing...
When read, interpreted, and applied as the authors intended;

THIS IS CLEAR:
The identity, acts, and testimony and session of Jesus Christ remain clearly stated ---

AND.....
THIS IS ALSO CLEAR:
The disposition of Almighty and Holy God towards the righteousness of Christ, the enumeration and ultimate accountability for all sin, the several judgments of God that will eventually reconcile all things in heaven and earth unto Himself.

Elton is typical of the homosexual worldview. Anyone that is kind and loving is a homosexual. Heterosexuals are cruel and hateful people. Everything for a homosexual is about homosexual relationships and activities. It is a perverse worldview.

Actually Reginald Dwight would be nothing had it not been for Bernie Taupin.

Actually, Reagan did try to close the bathhouses and the gays rioted for almost two weeks. This is the only disease that the CDC was not allowed to quarantine and eradicate.

I was based in San Fran for the military at the time and was shocked by the hatred that the gays had for anything and everything.

If Elton thought Mohammad was gay would he say so in an interview?

I didn't think so either.

Was he gay before or after he married Mary Magdalen? I forget my historical rewrites. It sometimes gets hard to remember lies.

The reason the Church had The council of Nicaea (AD 325) was because of heretical text and beliefs such as this. The outcome of the council was the Nicean Creed and the foundations of the Catholic, Orthodox, and many Protestant churches.

I disagree with that view, after spending a few years on AIDS care teams and Outreach. And, after reading what Elton wrote, he questions so he’s not at peace. Yes he does place blame elsewhere and yes, for his own needs, states that Jesus was gay all done to placate the demons he carries.

The worse I can say about gays is that they’re lost, in their hearts they know they’re lost so they hide it in glitz and glamour and glorification while many of them die alone, ashamed and still lost.

During that period the AIDS infection wiped out many of the gay community and moved onto drug addicts. Being there I would rather counsel and help a gay than a drug addict. They have no remorse and will steal your purse while on their death bed.

The worse a gay did was call me and ask if he could borrow a sequined gown and btw, would I care for his dog when he was gone.

I know that the belief is that they’re not God’s children but I don’t believe that. They pray just as we do and I believe God listens and has forgiveness for everyone.

And, re: all they care about is homosexual relationships and activities. Every death bed I was at wasn’t full of flamboyant guys of the night. It was mothers and fathers and sister and brothers and maybe one special friend.

The saddest part - the one’s who died alone holding the hand of a care team member because they were ashamed to tell their family. That’s just wrong.

In God's own words in both the old & new Testaments, homosexuality is a sin and an abomination. It's very clear without any chance of misunderstanding His words.

Certainly, anyone can disagree but they are disagreeing with God - not society.

If any sinner repents, he is forgiven. No unrepentant sinner is a child of God. Homosexuality is a sinful inclination, and homosexual acts are sinful actions. If someone really cared about homosexuals, he would call them to repentance. As long as any sinner persists in his sins and refuses to repentant, they are lost.

"And he said to his disciples: It is impossible that scandals should not come: but woe to him through whom they come. It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones." Luke 17:1-2

Yo, Elton....

Stick to music, Dame Elton, and leave the theology to people who know what they’re talking about.
