OAKLAND A You Tube video showing a fight between two AC Transit bus riders has ignited a flurry of online debates about violence, race and the safety of public transit.
The video, which shows an older white man exchanging blows with a younger black man, is attracting hundreds of thousands of hits.
The fight took place Tuesday afternoon on a bus in downtown Oakland, near the corner of Harrison and Webster streets.
We will update this story when further details are available.

Oh my God, I am laughing so damn hard at your “Epic Beard Man” picture!
There goes his street cred. It need to stay outta the hood for the next 60 days.
Johnson expressed surprise that the fight became such a media hit. "It was just a fight. On a bus," he said Wednesday. "Of course you would look at it if it were happening in front of you. And I'm not trying to minimize it. But that's all it was."
From the article. The old guy was observed for mental instability ? ??? He clearly tried to defuse the situation, the younger guy followed him and attacked him. That's mentally unstable ? But verbally abusing a perfect stranger, following him throughout the bus and attacking him is perfect mental health, apparently.
And the Transit Authority guy: "It's just a fight ?"
Further proof we DO live in bizzaro world.
I am saddened watching this and seeing how people suffer in such misery. Nobody “won” in this incident. Both of them lost.

This was a pleasure to watch! That little —— bastard won’t be taking on “Gramps” any time soon!
The older white guy seemed a touch off but I don’t know how you can restrain him from leaving the scene simply because he defended himself and talked a little ___ with a punk on the bus. They can’t even commit people these days without great evidence and cause—how can they take him to the hospital to ‘observe’ him if it’s “just a fight.”
And it was not just a fight to the millions who’ve seen it. It represents something much more and though he may not be the perfect role model, Epic Beard Guy is definitely a model to those who wish to live in a civilized society and take public transit and walk the streets without fear of the antisocial elements (whatever their background.)
Not exactly a display of dignity.
The big white guy has been identified as Thomas Bruso, the same big white guy who was videotaped getting into a fight with about four Oakland cops at an A’s game about two years ago, which might have been posted here on FR. I know I saw it somewhere.

He ain’t a guy you want to hitch your wagon to.
Epic beard guy? lol...
Saw the interview yesterday
There was another youtube vid with a Chinese woman getting the best of a black woman who landed the first blow. On a bus. Person who posted it was an Asian girl
Seems in some transit systems the black women try to bully the Asian ones and the Asians are fighting back
thanks for viddy-link. Notice the busdriver. She calmly gets out and shuts the door behind her! Geez!
Nice left jab to start.
bllsht...He’s still OK in my book!
Are you kidding? No one won?
The white guy won. And so did the passengers. And future passengers. And passengers who see the utube who see how to respond to these punks. And the passengers on those buses will win too.
There were a dozen winners on that bus. Possibly thousands of winners on others buses.
A civil society won.
You need to learn how to count.
We count differently. In my book, nobody won. There are only losers when people turn to violence.
Those maggots tazed him as he was submitting to being handcuffed
Right; next time he’ll be armed with a knife or a gun. Is that the answer?
WWII, Hitler.
