PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) A Haitian judge said he would order the release on Wednesday of eight of 10 American missionaries accused of kidnapping children, while the remaining two would be held for further questioning.
Laura Silsby, the leader of the group, and Charisa Coulter, were being kept for further investigation, ..
The 10 Americans, most of whom are members of an Idaho-based Baptist Church, were arrested last month on charges that they tried to take 33 Haitian children out of the country without proper documentation after the devastating January 12 earthquake in Haiti.

This makes one pause before giving money to Haiti. That Haitian officials are using invaluable resources and assets to imprison and feed Americans (while they could be used to help their own) is unconscionable.

Who are you trying to kid? You never gave any money to Haiti.
Puello, the Dominican Republic former legal advisor for the group, acknowledged he’s wanted in El Salvador on human smuggling accusations altho the caption above makes mention of sexual trafficking,, same difference.
Excuse me? What?
They gonna keep the wimmin? They likes them some wimmin.
I think that some of the more liberal freepers here are hoping that they can get some Christian scalps out of this, especially Protestant scalps.
I don’t know. Have seen a few interviews with the folks in this group, and my only conclusion is that their wounds are self-inflicted. I am sure they are well intentioned, but I’m pretty sure we are also clear what the road to hell is paved with.
I don’t support the notion that we Americans be given a free pass to arrogantly and knowingly violate the law in Haiti during this crisis.
You are right. I don’t know what I did to deserve wtc911’s inflamatory quip, but I can deal with rude folk.
These aren’t the sort of people down there looking for trouble or sex traficking.
It just burns me that Haitian officials are expending food and resources amid all the death and destruction to make an example out of Christina missionaries from Idaho. It’s hideous and patently wrong.
Ugh, I meant “Christian” missionaries.
My take all along is that these eight didn't know what they were doing but were well meaning. I'm very glad they are being released; I think it's a just result.
Silsby is the leader and I don't have enough info to judge here, but have no problem with Haiti investigating the matter.
When you adopt from a foreign country, as I have, you play by their rules. We would demand no less if a foreigner wanted to adopt an American kid.
I don’t know if something will come of this or not, but on the early threads, after the arrests, I noticed the excited and venomous glee that some of the anti social conservative click here showed, it revealed some deep rooted anti/Christian, in some cases anti/Protestant hate.
I was surprised, I can under stand people being open to the idea that one or more of this group was up to no good, but I sure did not expect to see the passionate hope that they would all be convicted of something and spend their lives in Haitian prisons.
Ask yourself, would any governing authority dealing with all the terrible challenges it is facing reasonably choose to waste resources and risk disabusing many of the Western aid sources of their some of their good intentions over such small matter? Hardly.
The fact that the useful idiots in the kidnapping group are being released shows that the Haitian authorities recognize that they were dupes of the two whom they are still going to hold.
wtc911 ~ Time will tell who is guessing right here....so let’s wait and see how the final chapter unfolds.
Time will tell but the tide seems to be going agaisnt these people. Insticnt tells me they may have been up to no good but hopefully the facts will set the story straight.
“I think that some of the more liberal freepers here are hoping that they can get some Christian scalps out of this, especially Protestant scalps” Spoken like a true follower of the huckster or Jim Jones......
Let the truth come out and you go play voodoo someplace.
You might want to read post 13, Let the truth come out just like I said, but I do know what I have seen here since it started.
I think that some of the more liberal freepers here are hoping that they can get some Christian scalps out of this, especially Protestant scalps.
It sure set you off, you must not have seen many of those earlier threads.
It burns some folks that people, even "Christina missionaries from Idaho," think that they can swoop in and kidnap Haitian children and illegally remove them from their own (even if impoverished) families and nation to sell them to foreigners--whether those foreigners are sex slavers or "good Christian families."
The food and resources that the Haitian authorities spent on these prisoners is minimal, and well worth it if it gives pause to like-minded ilk who might think that they can swoop down on Haiti and carry off its children.
