US Representative William Delahunt said yesterday that he is considering retiring from his congressional seat representing the South Shore and Cape Cod, although he portrayed his deliberations as routine and said they are not related to challenges from Republicans who are energized by Scott Browns upset victory in last months special Senate election.

I've seen a few postings mentioning Delahunt's announcement of his "possible retirement", but I thought a separate posting was worthwhile to point out the timeline.
This article is dated 2010-02-13. It says that he made the announcement "yesterday" (on 2010-02-12).
The shootings by Amy Bishop occurred at the University of Alabama at 4:00 CST on 2010-02-12:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_University_of_Alabama_in_Huntsville_shooting#Shooting.
If you haven't been following the details, Delahunt was the District Attorney that declined to prosecute Amy Bishop when she shot and killed her brother and allegedly threatened several other people immediately thereafter with the same firearm.
Does anyone know exactly when Delahunt made his announcement?

He’s got some explaining to do.

Yes, he carried 55.5% of Cape Cod (Provincetown, naturally, went for Coakley).

I thought about this but it would have too quick for Delahunt to respond to. If it was after the shooting it would have been only hours later. Too short for the name of the shooter to get to Delahunt and for Delahunt and his team to actually confirm that she was the same person. If it was the next day then I say yes. But I think his decision came before he knew of the Alabama murders. His district went completely for Scott Brown in huge margins.

...the District Attorney that declined to prosecute Amy Bishop
Not to be picky, but he didn't just decline to prosecute, didn't he actively intervene to stop the process?

Not to be picky, but he didn't just decline to prosecute, didn't he actively intervene to stop the process? That's not clear to me. I thought it was the police chief that intervened during the booking process, but Delahunt subsequently reviewed the case and declined to prosecute it.
But, if you find something that contradicts this, I'm open to correction.

Too short for the name of the shooter to get to Delahunt and for Delahunt and his team to actually confirm that she was the same person. That's a good point. I didn't follow the shooting until a couple of days after it occurred. I was pre-occupied with other stuff last weekend. :-)
If the shooter wasn't immediately identified in the news reports, Delahunt couldn't have connected the dots. But from what I've read, the local police officers were really unhappy about how her case was handled, and maybe one of them kept track of her and connected the dots through non-official channels, then gave Delahunt an quick "I told you so" call.

I know cops and I am related to a few. Highly unlikely. Let’s just say they aren’t at all like they are on T.V. and the movies. If you get my drift....
To: justlurking
Of course, nothing to do with DR. AMY BISHOP, PhD.

Hey, your take is as good as mine, if not better. I’m no expert on this, just recalling (perhaps foggily) something I read here.

Delahunt has real, live blood on his hands. Amy Bishop has ruined his career. Sooner or the later, the buried past will resurface, and bite.
All those who covered up for her should be charged with conspiracy.
