Another Transit Fight Posted on YouTube
NBC 11 ^ | 2/16/10

Posted on 02/16/2010 8:29:06 PM PST by nickcarraway

Another verbal fight that turned violent was posted on YouTube Tuesday.

A man who announces himself as a 67 year old gets into it with a fellow much younger passenger.

It started as an argument that seemed to be a simple misunderstanding over a comment made while taking a seat. The two separated with one moving to the front of the bus for a time. But that time out did not last long. More words are exchanged. Then the younger man walks up front for some more yelling followed by fists flying. Note: the older gentlemen is wearing a light blue t-shirt that reads, "I am a ********#***.

After the fight, the older guy gets off the bus while the younger guy deals with his injuries, including a fairly bloody face.

I believe your observation is correct.

I had the opportunity to talk to a liberal about this today, and he is upset that this thing “got out”, and he says they are playing it over and over on Fox et al. (I wouldn’t know since I don’t watch television)

I thought it was interesting that he would be upset that it “got out”, and observed that if this had been white people picking on someone and saying “kick his black ass” that would have been all over the news and Obama would be talking about it.

He responded that he heard that point of view from the right wingers.

Actually, I was referring to your:

Also, for the uninformed foreigners lurking - this is one of the many reasons why mass transportation isn’t popular in most of the United States.

It’s dangerous. Civil disorder and barbarism of this nature are daily realities in every large city.

Mass transportation isn't popular in most of the United States is because it doesn't work in most parts of the United States. I live in Florida now where they want to build a train from Orlando to Tampa. It’s a stupid, money-wasting idea. But in New York City driving a car is not efficient due to its highly urbanized environment. New York City’s public transportation network is the most extensive in North America. There are 468 stations and 656 miles of track.

BTW, my sister-in-law was a NYC subway crime victim; it was a Caucasian guy who grabbed her necklace.

//beyond any rationalizing or apologies for the low academic achievement, extremely disproportionate crime rates and general failure that characterizes contemporary black American culture//

I rear that too, especially the disproportionate crime rates.

Is it just me or has racial tensions significantly escalated since Obama has been elected?

I personally saw alot more racial tension in the 1980s, and my parents can tell you horror stories of what used to happen in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly as a certain group moved into to previously safe neighborhoods/schools.

The good think is, now that certain group of people have to face folks from the other part of our hemisphere who won't take their sh-t. Viva los Vaqueros!

Public transportation is the primary mode of transportation for the underclass. It is very dangerous for people not traveling during peak travel times (rush hour). Try being the alone on public transportation sometime during off-peak hours. Check out every person on that video egging that guy on to kick his a**. Unfortunately for the aggressor, the 67 year old man did not cower and pummeled the fool.

If you were not born, raised and experienced growing up in a BIG city, you don't know what you are talking about. All 'classes' ride the NYC subways, buses and ferries. There just aren't enough parking spaces available in Manhattan if everyone drove. I have ridden the subways 'off hours' many many times, always trouble free.

When I took cab in NYC, I saw five lanes of traffic on a four lane road. I’m not sure what it takes to drive in NYC, but I haven’t got it...
I also took the subway. It works just fine.
I enjoyed the visit, but I wouldn’t live there no matter how much you paid me. Too many people in too small of an environment.

Does the name Goetz ring a bell?

The name Bernie Goetz rings a bell for me - even though more than 25 years have past. It was went five fools met and one of them had a gun. Goetz entered a subway car and sat across from four black teenagers. The remaining 15 to 20 passengers were all seated at the other end of the car, keeping their distance because the teenagers were “acting rowdy”. One of the teens approached Goetz and asked him, “How are you doing?” According to Goetz, he also said, “Give me five dollars.” Goetz pulled out a revolver and shot all four teens. After a passenger pulled the alarm and stopped the train, Goetz jumped onto the tracks and ran off into the tunnel. He then fled to New Hampshire where he turned himself in to the police nine days later.

I grew up driving in the city so the traffic never fazed me but I was fear-struck when I moved to a rural area where the roads weren’t lit at night and 4-legged creatures darted in front of my car.

It was a fun smack down to watch. The USMC Vet. tried to disengage and he was hit first. I hope it all turns out well for him. Hope he doesn’t catch anything from all that blood. :)

I like not having lights everywhere, except the on bridge across the lake next to my house (that could use some small lights, low down, shining on the road). But the critters are sometimes annoying. My dad hit a bear once. Fortunately, he was driving the Road Pig - a Crown Victoria. Bear didn’t survive, and the car went to the shop.
Rural drivers have their own brand of madness; I haven’t hit anything, but I’ve been hit.

There is an old saying: “Don’t pick a fight with an old guy, ‘cause he may be too old to take punches and too slow to run away, so he might just kill ya!”

Amen Brother! I'm too old to run and too stubborn to let someone just thump on me. I just hope to exercise as much restraint as this gentleman and not just plant the miscreant.

Be well my friend.

If you were not born, raised and experienced growing up in a BIG city, you don't know what you are talking about.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I'm very familiar with "public" transportation. As a youngster, I rode the green limousine and the L all over the city. I have been attacked multiple times by scumbags like the people in the video. Many times the buses were crowded with future Obama voters (Harold Washington supporters at the time) and they cheered the assaults, just like in the video. The bus drivers never stopped the bus and called the cops (guess why!). Once after being physically assaulted when I was about 17, I swore that I would never ride the CTA again.

I've managed to keep that promise after more than 20 years.

God bless this old guy! I hear that the police have him in custody. How can anyone who views the videotape not see that he attempted to avoid the confrontation. What is he guilty of: riding the bus while being white?

Well, I'm a petite female who, from high school days through retirement, rode New York City's public transportation. I took one train and two buses to get to high school. An hour and a half through Queens and the worse parts of Brooklyn, on the "A" train, got me to my midtown Manhattan office. Once, in all those years, a guy exposed himself to me. Big deal - actually not so big - I simply moved to the other end of the car.

Did you do anything to instigate your multiple attacks? I have a brother, who in his teens, always seemed to find trouble. Ya know, teenage boys and hormones. He'd duct tape his chest and wear a leather jacket to ward off knife attacks and carried leather gloves with rolls of coins in the fingers. You'd think someone was going to slap you with a glove, then ***POW!!!***

The guy in the video is a fellow named Thomas Bruso, aka Tom Slick, aka Vietnam Tom, aka Epic Beard Man. He now has an interesting facebook page.

Here's Part 2 of the video where he goes ballistic on the street. here

I sure like to know what was going on before the camera began to roll on the bus. There are reports that he instigated the whole thing by asking the black fellow to polish his shoes.

And here's a video of him being tazed and arrested at a baseball game last summer: here

He is well-known in San Francisco as being mentally unstable and extremely dangerous. He has attacked and choked people and spent a lot of time in jail. He's very strong, angry, belligerent, violent, and unafraid of police.

I've seen the other videos. They are irrelevant to this discussion.

That old guy beat the crap out of that guy and he was well within his rights. He and his thieving girlfriends should be in jail. Did you even watch the video of the fight?

Did you do anything to instigate your multiple attacks?

Yes, I made the mistake of being the last white kid on the bus.
