Politico and the Washington Post report that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele will meet with 50 Tea Party activists today on Capitol Hill.
Politico's Vogel writes that "Tuesday will mark the first large-scale get-together between the national party and grass-roots activists from a wide array of regional tea party groups." But some "tea partiers have pushed back against Republican groups wrapping themselves in the movements flag. Jenny Beth Martin, a founder of the umbrella group Tea Party Patriots, remembers asking the Republican Governors Association to drop the 'tea party' name from a tele-town hall effort with governors popular in the tea party crowd."
The Washington Post's Rucker similarly writes, "The afternoon meeting on Capitol Hill will mark the first time that a broad coalition of tea party organizers -- who have railed against both the Democratic and the Republican establishments -- will sit down with GOP leaders
The organizers meeting with Steele and his top RNC lieutenants represent about 30 tea party groups nationwide, from Connecticut to South Carolina to Texas." More: But Floridian Karin Hoffman of Tea Party group DC Works for Us "said some other leaders of tea party groups declined her invitation to meet with Steele, saying they 'distrust' the Republican Party leadership. 'The trust has to be earned,' she said."

Get in line.
I'm interested to see what comes out of this meeting.
They didn't invite me, or apparantly anyone west of Texas.
I'm not sure I agree with those declining to go to the meeting.
If several Tea Party Groups are attending, I think it would be worthwhile to go to let the GOP know that they need to recruit the tea partiers ideas and add them to the Republican party's platform.
The funny thing is, they will find that the tea party people's ideas are a lot of GOP ideas that have been nixed by their leftist leanings lately.
LOL.. Yup. Take a number..
I wonder if Kristin was invited?
SO how are they going to smooch on the leader when their is no leader?
Looks to me like they need to adopt the tea party values and principles, then we can talk. I would say that would be a good step in the right direction.
Who was invited to attend? And how much were they paid?

Something special is happening with the Tea Party Movement of today. Of course people will try to gain control of it because it is a very powerful source of energy. But the concern that it is not controlled and therefore doomed is unfounded. It needs not be nor should it be confined ... to a leader, to an organization or to a specific plan. Such activity would nullify the greatness of what it has become to date and could grow to in the future. One neednt worry ... one only need to join the energy, shun people who attempt its control and allow plans to be spur of the moment. With a leader, there is a target, with an organization, a counter-organization, with a plan, a thwarting of the plan. But as pure ENERGY ... nothing can stop it. Think of it as energy ... join it, and be a part of this historical change-making effort.
I’m more concerned about who was chosen as leaders since I don’t recall hearing about any true leadership.
At least they are no longer labeling them as Tea Party Leaders.
The TPM is the definition of grass roots. No leader but working toward a common goal.
My vision...
Steele to Tea Party attendees...
1. You know where your real home is
2. All you’re going to do is defeat real conservatism
3. You’ll never amount to anything without us
4. You need to grow up and be more pragmatic
5. You need to identify yourself first as Republicans
6. Don’t be so confrontational
7. Yada yada yada...
We’ve tried whizzing up wind Steele. Foged aboud it.
That is the NUMBER ONE caveat.
As far as the other questions, I'm looking in to that.
We’ll have to see what emerges.. Peace in our time?!? .. or .. Total Devastation .. Stock up on Tea. :-]
I don't know that I'd make it a question. More of a statement. My advice, which I give freely, is to listen to him and then tell him to go pound sand!
Each of those can have leaders for their groups, why not?
I would imagine each tea party group would designate someone from their group to go to the meeting to represent their views.
As far as a National Leader, I don't think there will be one.
The National Leader is the millions of individual Patriot Americans involved with the movement.
That shouldn't change.
If Steele speaks at any tea party functions I’ll bring plenty of cabbage.
(GOP Desperate)
RINOCRACY - Pleeassssee! pleeeaaassseeee don’t let me become irrelevant!
Well,Mr.Steele,I'm kinda high maintenance.
