HOUSTON, Feb. 16, 2010 -- ConocoPhillips [NYSE: COP] today announced that it will not be renewing its membership in the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP). This action enables the company to better focus its efforts on ensuring fair and equitable treatment of the transportation sector and its consumers and on expanding opportunities for greater near-term GHG reductions through increased use of natural gas.
"As an active member of USCAP, we owe a great deal of credit to our colleagues, both companies and non-government organizations alike," said Jim Mulva, ConocoPhillips chairman and chief executive officer. "USCAPs diverse membership and high-level commitment have made it a true pioneer in the climate change debate, and we have highly valued our involvement."
"House climate legislation and Senate proposals to date have disadvantaged the transportation sector and its consumers, left domestic refineries unfairly penalized versus international competition, and ignored the critical role that natural gas can play in reducing GHG emissions," Mulva continued. "We believe greater attention and resources need to be dedicated to reversing these missed opportunities, and our actions today are part of that effort. Addressing these issues will save thousands of American jobs, as well as create new ones."
ConocoPhillips is one of the nations largest producers of natural gas and refiners of transportation fuels, the latter already regulated under a federal GHG reduction regime through the Renewable Fuels Act of 2007 and the CAFE II motor vehicle fuel efficiency requirements of 2009. The company maintains a strong commitment to a federal legislative solution for mandatory reduction of GHG emissions and encourages Congress and the Administration to work together to that end.
ConocoPhillips is an integrated energy company with interests around the world. Headquartered in Houston, the company had approximately 30,000 employees, $153 billion of assets, and $149 billion of revenues as of December 31, 2009. For more information, go to www.conocophillips.com.
Ping.
Oil pushes back!
I believe the Global Hoax summit in Copenhagen refused to list natural gas as an energy source as one that could be used for carbon credits.
Who’s side do you think the greenies were on anyway?
It sure wasn’t the energy companies!
It’s time that energy companies focus on providing affordable energy to customers instead of fleecing tax payers with these AGW scams.
The list, ping
Carbon Dioxide is not pollution. Breathing is not a crime.
The people who pad their checkbooks.
It sure wasnt the energy companies!
They are on the side of select energy companies, the ones they don't scream about. How often do you hear of the enviros screaming about BP? Who do you think is funding the bulk of "alternative energy" investment?
No, it's going to consolidate the oil industry and inflate the price of the commodity via artificial scarcity, while insuring that their investments in otherwise uncompetitive technologies have a predictable return, which is what the owners want.
Not yet. But you may eventually need a license, after you license your guns and get a permit to surf the Web and make limited/monitored postings here on FR...
Breathing is only a crime if you are a conservative.

Maxine Waters warns Shell president in House committee hearing

2008 WorldNetDaily
A report by Fox News, captured in a clip posted on YouTube.com (Must see video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUaY3LhJ-IQ) , showed Waters challenging the president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, to guarantee the prices consumers pay will go down if the oil companies are allowed to drill wherever they want off of U.S. shores.
Hofmeister replied: "I can guarantee to the American people, because of the inaction of the United States Congress, ever-increasing prices unless the demand comes down."
The Shell exec said paying $5 at the pump "will look like a very low price in the years to come if we are prohibited from finding new reserves, new opportunities to increase supplies."
Waters responded, in part, "And guess what this liberal would be all about. This liberal will be about socializing uh, um..."
The congresswoman paused to collect her thoughts [for about 5-6 seconds this went on, while her colleagues behind her laughed].
"...would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies..."
The oil executives responded, according to Fox News, by saying they've seen this before, in Hugo Chavez's Venezuela.

THEREFORE..., its also absolutely necessary for people to know the information in the following documentary. If there were simply one video that you could see and/or show people you know... this would be the one...
The following is an excellent video documentary on the so-called Global Warming I would recommend it to all FReepers. Its a very well-made documentary.
The Great Global Warming Swindle
If you want to download it, via a BitTorrent site (using a BitTorrent client), you can get it at the following link. Information about BitTorrent protocol and BitTorrent clients and their comparison at these three links (in this sentence). Some additional BitTorrent information here and here.
Download it here...

[This is a high-quality copy, of about a gigabyte in size. This link is the information about it, and you have to click the download link to get it on your BitTorrent client software. You'll also find users' comments here, too.]
Its worth seeing and having for relatives, friends, neighbors and coworkers to see.
Also, see it online here...

[this one is considerably lower quality, is a flash video and viewable online, of course..., and also, you can download flash video on a website either yourself or some software doing it.]
Buy it on DVD here...
[this would be the very highest quality version, on a DVD disk, of several gigabytes in size...] At Amazon, it seems to be high-priced now and have only a few copies right now.

Oil Wars Two “Revenge of the Derricks”
I’m so happy that people like Jeff Immelt at GE are now having their ass handed to them on climate change. They supported Dems and the cap n tax bill heavily, banking on the fact that they could reap huge government contracts, and now they won’t get a damn thing for it. A victory for freedom-loving Americans, and a loss for corporate-statist Democrats and eco-socialists.
It’s not what the oil industry owners wanted! I know that for a fact. I know the chairman of Murphy Oil Corporation and have seen his presentation of what it would have done to them. It would have killed the industry.
Yes, I think many of these energy companies; especially the ones that have large natural gas investments, thought they were going to be on the positive side of the cap n tax regime.
They found out differently, in the post-AGW era (I believe that’s where we’re at now) a lot of these companies will back away from the greeny propaganda, hopefully the end of these green marketing campaigns is on the horizon.
Would you give an opinion on this please...
“To: kcvl
Cap & Trade (TAX) was going to kill the oil industry, exactly what the greenies wanted.
No, it’s going to consolidate the oil industry and inflate the price of the commodity via artificial scarcity, while insuring that their investments in otherwise uncompetitive technologies have a predictable return, which is what the owners want.

Great Recommendation to buy their products when available.
Immelt is happily suckling @ Obama’s teet. I read - somwhere, maybe Marketwatch, that GE is building a massive wind farm in Oklahoma.
