A three-year-old pit bull named Marley is credited with saving a little girl in Alaska from a house fire in early December.

Marley, a black and white dog who looks like Pete from the Little Rascals television show, grabbed the back of six-year-old Autumn Marley's jacket to drag her out of the burning house.

Autumn alerted her mother who was cooking dinner that the entryway to the house was on fire. Julie Marley then forced open a seldom used back door so she and her two daughters could escape the fire.

As Ms. Marley left the house she turned to see Marley the dog pulling Autumn through the door to safety.

Jennifer Ingram, Marley's guardian, said that, "She's always been an awesome dog, but I didn't know she was capable of doing this." Ingram has raised Marley from a puppy.

Ms. Ingram was out shopping for Christmas presents when the fire broke out and arrived home to find Marley running loose in the midst of all the firefighters and bystanders.

She planned to take Marley to the vet to treat frostbite on her feet from being out in the snow.

Thanks to Autumn and Marley no one was injured in the fire, although the house was a total loss.

The Red Cross set up a place for the Marley family to stay, while Ms. Ingram and Marley the dog are staying with a friend.

Pitbulls are a strange mix of power and weakness. Real tough in a fight, but pathetic weak when it comes to weather. Can’t take the heat, and can’t take the cold...crap for long distance running too.

It is not the dog breed but the owner. In this most cases the owner of a pit bull has a need for a macho stroke or a need to cover up an illegal activity.

confusing story:

“Julie Marley then forced open a seldom used back door so she and her two daughters could escape the fire.

As Ms. Marley left the house she turned to see Marley the dog pulling Autumn through the door to safety. “

Ms. Marley left the house and then turned to see the dog pulling her daughter out? Ah, what mother would go out first?

They named the dog after the family name.

Your screen name reflects what you are in the head when it comes to dogs. There is no "canine racism" going on here -- breeds MATTER. A drug addict or neglectful owner gets a basset hound or a cocker spaniel that turns mean, and you might have a few victims with minor dog bites. That SAME OWNER gets a pit bull that turns mean, and if there's a victim, that victim is either hospitalized with severe injuries, or in the morgue.

You are in denial when you say it's not the dog breed. I am against breed bans. That's why I get so disgusted at you pit bull defenders who refuse to face up to the truth, which is that this IS a problem whose foundation lies in the breed of the dog. As long as you deny the problem, you're never going to come up with a solution. Breed banning is A BAD IDEA as wrong in principle as it is shortsighted. But it is what will happen eventually unless pit bull fans recognize the problem and come up with a solution of making sure that folks who own pit bulls either know what they're doing, or give the dogs up to folks who know how to handle the breed.

You guys are kind of like Muslims who refuse to condemn Islam for breeding terrorits. You refuse to condemn a popular and dangerous mentality that says "if you're nice to these dogs, you should have no problem." Certain breeds are more than people can handle no matter how nice they are to them, just like a spirited horse is more than a novice rider can handle. Any stable that knowingly endorsed ownership of said horse to an unqualified rider would, and should, be liable for the consequences; but you people are all the time knowingly endorsing pit bull ownership among regular folks, and when the breed proves too much for regular folks to handle ... you relieve yourselves of all liability for not facing the fact that BREEDS MATTER and blame the owners instead. Then there's a popular outcry for breed banning that you helped bring about by your own unwillingness to accept accountability.

EVERYONE knows that all pit bulls are nothing but vicious child maulers.

You ought to apply your self-righteous tagline to your own behavior. Out of 20 pitbulls in a neighborhood, 19 of them can be sweethearts, but it only takes one to invade the yard next door or run loose on the street to kill an innocent old person or a little kid, and it has happened again and again and again and again in the past five years alone. Just ONE it all it takes out of 20. Do you really think that risk is justified? And do you really think it's not INSANE of you to imply that people who point it out are saying that "all pit bulls are nothing but vicious child maulers"? READ YOUR OWN TAGLINE! Either that, or delete it and come up with one that doesn't make you a hypocrite.

You can have 20 spaniels, or 20 chihuahuas, or 20 golden retreivers, or 20 standard muttleys, or 20 poodles, in a neighborhood, and 19 of them can be sweetheart, but ONE killing an innocent old lady or a little kid on the street or by invading their yard ... has it happened even once in the past 20 years? Get real. Get out of denial and pay attention to your own tagline.
