One day after Republican candidate for governor Debra Medina's insurgent campaign hit a speed bump, she's striking back. After comments on Glenn Beck's radio show Thursday that seemed to support 9/11 conspiracy theories, she says she was set up by her opponents.
-snip-
We sat down with Medina to put the comments and her campaign in focus.
It is seemingly all Debra Medina can talk about now.
-snip-
In her news conference Friday, it is clear Medina was trying to clean up the mess. But in our interview with her hours after the Beck radio show, she repeated there are still questions that need to be answered. On Friday, she told reporters she is curious why no New York City police officers died in the towers when so many firefighters did. That's not true, however, as 60 police officers were killed.
We've posted more of our interview with Medina here so you can hear thoughts on 9/11 conspiracies and President Barack Obama's citizenship.

It happened to Perot, Clayton Williams, Buchanan and the rest of the independent voices.
Furthermore, she's correct in saying, there are still questions that need to be answered.....I see that as a very level headed comment.
If anyone on this board can say with all honesty that the government does not lie, manipulate and cover up a whole host of information on a daily basis...is at the very least, naive.
I for one do not trust a thing that comes from the mouth of a bureaucrat or politician.
I'll bet a crisp new fifty dollar bill I can go back to the record and find several things both Perry and Hutchison has mislead or lied to citizens about.
So, why’s everyone so hard on this woman?
One second!
See my post at #18. Did you personally hear that broadcast? Am I correct in what I stated? If not, please correct me. I’m trying to find the audio.
Love the fork reference.
Yup... Ole Deb needs to save her money and back out of the race. Too bad - she made the ultimate rookie mistake. (The last thing I want in the Governor’s mansion is a rookie).
I’m backing Perry 100%.
Good question. I don’t know much about the current governor of Texas, but I don’t think that he’s a commie.
At anyrate, kooks of any stripe are bad news in govt as they want to make their belief system into action. I wouldn’t want the govt to start blaming us for 9/11 instead of the murdering muslims who committed the atrocities. We’ve got enough problems with the leftists doing that.
Sounds like Obama. It also sounds like this woman is a nut case.
That’s why I said “on the surface”.
I haven’t delved into Texas politics much.
Hey genius — when you find yourself in a hole — step 1: stop digging.
>> On Friday, she told reporters she is curious why no New York City police officers died in the towers when so many firefighters did. That’s not true, however, as 60 police officers were killed.
That’s the question?!?! That’s the big connection that makes you think the US Government was involved in 9/11? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
Cops typically don’t run into burning buildings. Firemen have these really cool heat-resistant coats, and axes, and helmets and things ... cops have guns, tasers and nightsticks. Still — 60 cops dies (likely from the lower floors of the building.
Logic apparently escapes truthers.

Some of her supporters claim that her first words in response to Glenn Beck were “I don’t ...”
And those were her first words, but I’ve listened to the audio many times, trying to find some shred of evidence that it was a set up or that she just bungled her answer, and she didn’t say “I don’t” as an answer that she didn’t believe the government was involved. She said “I don’t” as the beginning of a stammering response indicating that she didn’t have all the facts and so hadn’t taken a position on that.
The "truthers" aren't truthers?
“I heard that Jeffery Dahmer was a nice guy too.”
?
He isn't. Yes, we have a lot of complaints, but on balance, you would be hard pressed to find a better gov. The interesting thing about the complaints people have (TTC, HPV) is that in both cases, he backed down when the people spoke up about it. I would rather have someone who is wrong on some things but listens to the people than someone who is wrong and stubborn.
Correcting the headline!
I sure wish I could find the poster a while back who lectured me on my reticence to support a loose cannon like Medina, and something to the effect that hopefully Texans would have sense enough to vote for “the only true conservative.”
Debra, we hardly knew ya.
No NYPD died? Is she a DU plant or what?
That is a level-headed comment. However, when she then goes on to cite a debunked truther claim that no NYPD officers died in the WTC as evidence that legitimate questions still remain, that is ignorant.
Sure, there may be unanswered questions in the 9/11 Commission Report, but that claim isn't one of them. It's a truther claim.
You want a 9/11 truther serving as Governor of Texas? I sure as heck don't.
Because she believes 9/11 was a inside job , a totally INSANE thing to say ...that’s why ..any other questions?
