Says Senate's Current Requirement of 60 Votes to Get Anything Done Represents Fundamental Shift in Congress
(CBS) The Senate's frequent use of the filibuster, a procedural tool used to block legislative progress, represents a "fundamental shift" in Congress, Vice President Joe Biden said today on "Face the Nation."
The Republican minority in the Senate has used the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to bypass, to block significant bills like the Democrats' health care reform package.

Has anyone else noticed Biden exposing himself more in the last couple weeks? I wonder if he’s being set up as the fall guy - i.e. he goes out there and says the stupid crap that arrests people’s attention, momentarily shifting focus off of Obama.
The refusal to work on a bi-partisan basis is the worst I’ve seen...the two are related, plugsy...
Biden the rodeo clown?
Obviously, you’re a long-time radio pro. This would be indeed fun to hear!
Good grief, Biden sure has a short memory .. When the repubs were in charge, all the dems did was squeel and hollar when the repubs threatened to change the rules. As for the dems using the filibuster .. they objected to everything Bush wanted to do.
And .. now that the repubs are turning the tables on the dems, they don’t like it much .. but the dems thought it was okay when they did it.
I’m so sick and tired of this DOUBLE STANDARD.
Get the bipartisan support you promised?
I swear, um, yea ok /LMFAO to what you said
And do you, nevermind, you're in, f-it
Is he actively trying to get himself dropped from the vice presidency?
Every day he just proves how certifiably delusional, psychopathic and/or sociopathic he truly is. They are beyond belief.
Hey CBS, the Democrats had a filibuster poof majority in the US Senate, and a huge majority in the House all year last year. They never needed any Republicans to pass any bill. Republicans never used Filibuster to stop any Democratic bill. They wouldn't if they wanted to.
There were 60 Democrat votes. There was NO FILIBUSER. And health reform PASSED SENATE.
Worst filibuster abuse? STFU Biden.
Couldn't get it done with 60 Dem votes that's your problem. Not the Republicans.
The worst? Maybe you have the worst memory ever seen.
The filibuster hasn’t been used and there hasn’t been an opportunity to use it until two weeks ago.
Before that you and your man child, Barry had an oft dreamed majority and still,....and still you could not pass your wet dream legislation.
Now what? You feign a Alzheimers? Joe, Joe, Joe....
Next.
Thanks much, I appreciate the compliment. Actually I have done some radio, but mostly it has been as a student of various broadcasters, some in sports but mostly in politics, primarily the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
And here's the followup:
"Here is a message, ladies and gentlemen, for the pathological plagiarist liar that darkens the office of the Vice President: just because you win an election, that does NOT give you carte blanche to do everything you want to do, at the rate to which you want to do it.
"Or do I need to remind you, Plugs, of YOUR party's conduct in the last 8 years...during four of which, your party held the Senate? Mr. Pathologically lying Vice President, do the names Janice Rogers Brown, Miguel Estrada, John Bolton, etc., mean anything to you?
"How about Henry Saad, you sad sack of....Mr. Engineer, I told you, keep your hand near that dump button...Snerdley, you have permission to yell at the libs today, if you want...
"And DO I NEED TO REMIND YOU, Mr. Constitutionalist Biden, who actually DID filibuster the Civil Rights Act in 1964...or whatever the hell year it was, Media Matters...and that was an ACTUAL fillibuster...
"For those of you in Rio Linda, Port St. Lucie, and Media Matters, I want you to listen very carefully...put your ear to the radio and feel the vibrations...
"It.....was.....NOT....a Republican....it was the "former" Grand Kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan, the militant wing of the Democrat Party...it was the same person who said, and I QUOTE, 'Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds"...
"It's the same person who said, 'I shall never fight with a Negro by my side'....and who is the current President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate, who is - in case you forgot, you lying plagiarist - right behind the Speaker of the House in terms of line of succession to the Presidency behind YOU (God help us)...
"That person's name, Plugs, is Robert C. Byrd...DEMOCRAT, West Virginia. Thought you might want to know that, Mr. Biden, since the man's name is on everything in West Virginia.
"Tell me something, Mr. vice president...is one of the prerequisites of holding political office the ability to COUNT? Because to break a filibuster, as it is known today, 60 votes are needed. Your party, sir, has had 60 votes for damn near a year. The only people stupid enough to believe that the Republicans even had enough votes to try a filibuster....are probably the ones that put you and that other pathological liar in the White House, and your party in massive majorities in the House and Senate.
"And while I'm on the subject, Mr. Plagiarist...Plagiarist and Prompter, what a combination...WHICH IS IT? Iraq was not worth the horrific price, as you said this weekend, or it is a significant achievement of your administration, as you said this past week?
"You want to know, Mr. vice president, what was not worth the horrific price? I'll get to the list after the break, but I'll start with your election, and that of your Marxist running mate...THAT was not worth the horrific price, and AMERICA and its children will be paying it long after your sorry carcass is voted out of office. We'll be back folks, stay with us."
Joe you DUMB ASS the Republicans couldn’t filbuster A DAM THING because there were 60 Dem votes till Scott Brown
No.......
Probably more like.......

Sorry, I couldn't find a more recent photo.
Miguel Estrada, a nominee for the D.C. Circuit, became the first court of appeals nominee ever to be filibustered.[12] Later, nine other conservative court of appeals nominees were also filibustered. These nine were Priscilla Owen, Charles W. Pickering, Carolyn Kuhl, David W. McKeague, Henry Saad, Richard Allen Griffin, William H. Pryor, William Gerry Myers III and Janice Rogers Brown.
Sure, Joe. Worst you've ever seen. Because you weren't looking when you were doing it.
