The Iceman Cometh He's Cool, Calm, And Out To Get Obama.

The blizzard had paralyzed Washington. So it was an apt day for a chat (by phone) with Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who is working successfullyyet with surprisingly little personal notorietyto bury the Barack Obama presidency in an unplowed cul-de-sac called the U.S. Senate. As the GOP leader there, McConnell strands Democrats in snowdrifts of parliamentary procedure and nasty talking points. "We are not just reflexively looking for areas where there will be no progress," he assured me. Having spent many years listening to McConnell, I can translate: he is reflexively looking for areas where there will be no progress.
In a city obsessed with visibility and celebrity, it largely goes overlooked that the plodding, unglamorous McConnell is Obama's most powerful foethe man he must outmaneuver, or at least neutralize, if he wants to reach the sunny uplands of (bipartisan) legislative accomplishment, not to mention a second term in 2012. It will not be easy.
Charm won't work. McConnell's Southern courtliness is of a wintry variety, and his sense of partisanship is as unforgiving as it is relentless. His chilly demeanor is emblematic of the way Washington now operates. There was a time when personal gestures and ego stroking worked wonders, especially for a president, even of the other party. Not anymore. I asked McConnell what he thought of the president on a personal basis. I could hear the impatience on the other end of the line. "Oh, personally, I think he's fun to be around," McConnell said dryly, as though he was pointing out a weakness. "An A-plus personality."
Impervious to presidential flattery, McConnell also gains strength from a certain modesty of ambition.

“Personalize It”
“Demonize It”
Rules for Radicals, Alinsky.
“An A-plus personality.”
Should we guess what the ‘A’ stands for?
Huh?
Since when has Obama had the least bit of interest in "bipartisan" legislative accomplishment?
In case you're new to Washington, and human behavior in general, Howard, giving lip service to something doesn't mean any thing if it is contradicted by everything you do.
Stick around, Howie. I'm sure you'll catch on.
Fineman attempts to do a slickly disguised hatchet job on McConnell but can only muster a very dull penknife from his tool bag. What drivel.
He is an insane Progressive fanatic.
The Democraps passed stimulus, and then were going to pass Obamacare and then Cap and tax and then Card Check, and they were going to do it without the Republicans. So now the shill Fneman from the unread Newsweak writes a hit piece on the Minority Leader. How nice.
Actually, I wish this was a realistic description of Mitch McConnell. We could use some strong leadership in the Senate.
Yup! No bias in the press. None whatsoever . . .
LOL. You described it perfectly.
The very first thing I thought of when I read this complete bullsh*t Newsweek propaganda hit piece.
Fineman is a complete asshat and committed socialist.
“McConnell also gains strength from a certain modesty of ambition”.
gack- keep up the fair work, Mr Milquetoast.
beware of admiration for and advice to the GOP from Newsweak
The weak GOP needs to keep hearing the conservative base and Tea Party People refrain:
Just say no.
No to higher spending.
No to higher taxes.
No to socialized healthcare.
... and NO to giving killer terrorists American Civil rights, which they have no rightful claim to.
No bias there.
If McConnell is so partisan, why did he allow a non-senator to cast votes for the Democratic side for more than two weeks after the special election in Massachusetts?
He has worked tirelessly behind the scenes against the closure of Guantanamoa, and he's holding the GOP in lockstep on many issues; a weaker man would not be able to do so.
I like that he doesn't seek the spotlight (the WH would LOVE to make him a target, but he refuses to be one) and is DOING HIS JOB!!!
The Wh will never get traction unless they call Mitch personally. Trying to peel off Snowe won't work. I truly believe they fear him.
I like Mitch also....WAY better than Dr. Frist who i THOUGHT was going to be good.....WRONG!
Is this wishful thinking?
Mitch is the MAN!
