'The secret role of the SAS in Iraq is revealed for the first time today by the Daily Mail.
As the first part of our adaptation of an explosive new book by BBC reporter Mark Urban shows, the SAS - sent to find non-existent WMDs - instead took inspiration from U.S. secret forces and set about tracking down Al Qaeda.
Their secret war sparked a furious row between Whitehall and the SAS's commander - but their extraordinary bravery and daring resulted in the capture or death of almost 4,000 terrorists.'

I want to read it.
I thought that was already fairly well known. Imagine that though, UK SF conducting hits on a terrorist organization that has killed people in the UK. Inconceivable!
Maybe Ross Kemp will be in the movie adaptation?
It is nice to see someone on our side that will actually kick ass and take names when required. I would buy them a drink any time.
“...UK SF conducting hits on a terrorist organization...”
Sounds a lot like the open-borders Labour Party and their Lib Dems plus most of the staff of the BBC, Guardian, Reuters, etc etc.
KEWL.....must read.
How about Martin & Gary Kemp plus the rest of Spandau Ballet as an SAS team.
I saw MoD and I thought at first it was a MoDo thread. Looking for the CZJ pics...
Blair opted to wear a shoulder-badge that had become a 'must-have' item among them. It featured the red, white and blue of the Union flag - and the words '**** Al Qaeda'.

Suspects would be interrogated the moment they were arrested - 'tactical questioning', as it was known. 'The shock of capture makes it very important to exploit that moment, and to do it on the spot,' one veteran explained.

There are doing good in Afghanistan too!
Been out driving in the Minnesota snow. Saw a number of wrecks: one car hanging off the edge of the Interstate near a cloverleaf, one off in the woods, one on its roof, another three-quarters upside down in the median, on on its side elevated on a snowbank...
So I haven't been reading with great attention to detail...
Cheers!
Four THOUSAND terrorists? The SAS are good, but even they are not THAT good. I suspect they are adding in those pinpointed by recconaissance and others to pad the numbers.
Still impressive though.
Into the triangle of death: The ferocious but inspiring story of how SAS troops stormed an Al Qaeda hell-hole to help take out one of Iraq’s bloodiest butchers
By Tony Rennell
It’s the book the MoD doesn’t want you to read - the explosive story of the SAS’s secret war in Iraq, in which 150 brave men captured or killed almost 4,000 Al Qaeda terrorists. On Saturday, in the first part of our adaptation of Newsnight defence editor Mark Urban’s account, we revealed how the SAS’s private war triggered a furious battle among their own top brass. Today, we reveal how the SAS hunted down Iraq’s most evil butcher - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the man who had personally sawn off the head of a helpless young American hostage. . .
bttt
I thought this was interesting:
Colonel Richard Williams, newly installed as overall commander of the SAS.
Williams, who had spent time in Baghdad, was an outspoken advocate of those within The Regiment who believed they were wasting their time chasing the 'old men' of Saddam's former regime and would be better off assisting the Americans in a time of crisis.
Boundlessly energetic and among the most aggressive field commanders in anyone's army, Williams had developed huge admiration for McChrystal, his American counterpart.
McChrystal's personal presence on many raids - despite holding a two-star general's rank - and his missionary certainty in his new concepts for fighting Al Qaeda had won the SAS boss over.
