Pennsylvania: A Battleground State Leaning Red

You have to hand it to the White House: It is at least consistent in sending the absolutely wrong message to voters pondering whether to keep Democrats in control of Congress in the coming midterm election.

Even the body language is all wrong.

[+] More

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs mocked Sarah Palin's crib notes on the palm of her hand. The next day, President Obama told Business Week that he didn't begrudge gazillion-dollar bonuses for executives of banks that U.S. taxpayers rescued.

That'll all play real well in battleground congressional districts, where incumbents and hopefuls are trying to define a message and a plan to win back independent voters and conservative Democrats who have surged away from them in recent polls.

Poll-aggregator Real-Clear Politics' average on the generic ballot shows Republicans ahead of Democrats, 46 percent to 42 percent. That is one big red flag for the party in power as the midterms approach.

Independent voters may not vote for Sarah Palin, but the White House does itself a disservice by making fun of her; Main Street voters have a lot more respect for someone who uses crib notes (something they might do) over someone who uses a teleprompter in a sixth-grade class room (something they would never do, but that Obama did recently).

Just watch the brilliant, really really smart, intellectual, above-it-all, “independent” geniuses swing it to the Democrats once again.

IMHO

All very true, however in 2008, PA went to Obama because of the urban areas (shocking, I know/s). If you look at the county breakdown, the state is overwhelmingly red.

We are in an upswing in PA. People are waking up...slowly. but it’s happening. We elected Republican senators in the recent past (I’m counting Snarlin’ Arlen so for arguments sake).

Rendell and Obama have turned even the most staunch Democrats off. Republican judges and state level politicians have had success in the recent elections.

I’m not counting PA as a given blue state. Not with the way Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts have gone.

If they ever privatize the state store system it will be another chance for the people in power to steal from the Pennsylvainia people.
When we went to gambling(ed Rendell middle of the night bill against the wishes of 60% or residents) they gave the casino liscenses to their cronies. Some of whom had ties to organized crime . They were shown repeatedly that if they would auction off the liscenses to the highest bidders they would bring in 2-3 Billion dollars-but Nooo, Ed gave them to his buddies and cheated the people out of revenues.

I disagree simply because the number of licenses would be too large. Certainly there would be plenty of corruption, but the number of non-corrupt stores would also be large compared to the number of casinos.

We need to start putting out versions of the red / blue states with the colors change. I agree with you 100%. Red are the anti-American, anti-constitutionalist communist scum that currently go by the names Democrat, Progressive or Liberal. Wicked, the whole lot of them.

excellent map. We need to start putting that and reworked others on as many web sites as possible. At the very least, we can screw up the liberal reverse word meaning mantra a little.

Once again, this is encouraging news to me. I DO NOT think that “0” (Zero)will get the Urban support in 2012 that he got in ‘08. The inner city people are hurting worse than most, and THE NOVELTY of a Black President has worn off.

He won’t clear out the Crack Houses and HO Houses, on Election Day, in 2012 like he did in ‘08; I guarantee. And, please excuse my crudeness.

You’re excused. You aren’t saying anything about PA that Pennsylvanians haven’t said themselves. Up until 2008, being a conservative in PA was pretty lonely. But it seems like many Democrats, all Republicans and a lot of Independents are all starting to see the light.

I’ll be a very excited woman to watch PA come out of its sleep in November. I really think it’s going to happen.

"PA does not suck, thank you very much."

The first step is admitting you have a problem...

Evidently PA voters has a desire to send socialists to all levels of government. Therfore, that would lead people to assume that the majority of voters in PA are themselves socialist.

If Socialist = suck and PA = socialist then, logically, PA = suck.

For PA to no longer equal suck they have to change part of the equation. Either Socialist has to equal something other than suck (which cannot happen because socialism shares a quantum state with suck) , OR PA needs to equal something other than Socialist. The science isnt done on whether or not its possible for PA to equal something other than suck for any length of time. It seems that even if PA does momentarily change states to non-suck it is quickly pulled back to suck by some (as yet undetermined) force.

In conclusion... While it is true that PA does, in fact, suck in its current state. It is possible for PA to enter a state of not-suck at some undetermined time in the future. but based on past measurements and observations it is expected that if PA does shift to not-suck, that the shift will be momentary and quickly be pulled to its natural state of suck.
