Incumbent Republican David Vitter has an even more commanding lead this month over his top Democratic challenger in Louisiana's race for the U.S. Senate. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows Vitter leading Democratic Congressman Charlie Melancon 57% to 33%. Just three percent (3%) would opt for some other candidate, while seven percent (7%) are undecided.
In January, Vitter led Melancon 53% to 35%. Melancon also trailed Secretary of State Jay Dardenne, who was considering challenging Vitter for the GOP Senate nomination, by a 53% to 31% margin in that poll.

I just wish Livingston hadn't left his rolodex behind for Vitter to find.
Vitter is an excellent La Senator unlike the other one, landrieu. Chet99 is worried about his personal life and I am sure was worried about clinton, edwards and the million other politician cheaters.
What matters today is fiscal responsibility. The country will be bankrupt soon with landrieu , o’dumbo, reid and pelosi.
Go Vitter. I will vote for you again and think you do a great job on the only thing that will save this county from collapse.
Last time Vitter ran, I had to listen to so many phone calls from him that I was tempted to charge him $300/hour for my time like...
She decided not to run months ago.
I actually expected this to be tighter. Melancon has been fairly popular for a Dem in a state turning red, but I guess this was probably the wrong year for him. I’m not a fan of Vitter, but he beats the alternative.
I’m reminded of the crooked Democrat Governor, Edwin Edwards’ famous quip that he couldn’t or wouldn’t lose a Louisiana election unless he was “Caught in Bed with a Dead Girl or a Live Boy.” I think the same could be said regarding the electoral chances of Senator David Vitter.
Yeah it would have been nice had that rolodex got trashed. lol
It was a mistake to force them out. The D’s used it to their advantage and look at what we have as R’s. A bunch of spineless sellouts.
Had he resigned the Dingbat (blanko) would have chosen who would have filled his seat. It would have been a D and god forbid had she appointed herself. :::SHUDDERS:::
He doesn’t come across well outside of his district. The thing is people are starting to realize that these “blue dog” dems who ultimately follow the party line when they need to stand their ground.
Edwin Edwards flaunted his misdeeds and ultimately paid the price. He is still in the federal pen waiting on Dollar Bill to join him.
It was the corruption that did Edwards in not his philandering. Edwards biggest error in judgment politically was being photographed mocking Jesus’ crucifixion. He had put ketchup on his hands and with arms outstretched said “why is everyone crucifying me”, or thereabouts. (It was in John Maguinnis’ book The Last Hayride.) It was all downhill after that.
Melancon is gonna have to pray Vitter is eaten by a pit bull.
Clearly Vitter has timing on his side.
Did you hear Dardenne is running for the Lt Governor special election this year instead ? What I don’t get is “Why ?” Sec of State is a much more powerful and influential post. He really should stay put.
Maybe he thinks that switching offices will increase his name I.D. The SOS post is rather low-profile.
Melancon can thank Mary for his troubles. She made it impossible to argue that Melancon or any other Democrat would not have been vote no. 61 for the health care bill (all of them voted for it, not just for cloture). Melancon himself is a mini-Louisiana Purchase. Back when the Dems got control of Congress, they voted for a timetable for troop withdrawal, and Melancon voted for it because it had money for LA’s coastline. The bill only passed by one vote. Wayne Gilchrist (who was beaten in the GOP primary last year) and Walter Jones were the only Republicans to vote for it.
Forget it. LA isn’t going to vote for Louisiana Purchase, Part II.
Speaking of Melancon, who do you think is looking strongest to succeed him ? State Sen. Jeff Landry seems to have the most $$ so far.
