HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police said a female member of the UA-Huntsville staff shot and killed three co-workers on campus.
Huntsville Police, Madison County Sheriff's department and HEMSI responded to a shooting at the UAH campus at 4:00 Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened in the Shelby Center, a math and science classroom building.
Authorities said a female faculty member during a Biology faculty meeting learned she would not receive tenure. She then pulled out a gun and started shooting.

I think you are correct - I definitely saw the original blond in a green sweater - I do not believe it was a man dressed as a woman! I think it was someone they "detained" and found innocent so they removed the photo.
I'm still surprised no photo of her husband - Jim Anderson - has surfaced - several links to his company, his published articles, etc. but no photo. Also - wondering if he was at the meeting and if so why? It seems he worked for a private company - was he also on the faculty?
It goes to the basic problem of modern academia - are you a researcher who teaches or a teacher who does research? At major research institutions, this is a major conflict because a large part of getting tenure is how well you do research and teaching not infrequently suffers. I think it’ll probably come down to eventually separating the two jobs of teaching and research at some point.
Being turned down means you lose your job. It’s up or out. With a degree in neuroscience she shouldn’t have any problem getting another one but it won’t be at a prestigious research university.

Only in some cases does the volume of grant dollars mean something. It all depends upon what the job description was. For example, I have some colleagues in my dept who are 80 teaching: 20 research. They are expected to teach and advise students. period.
The volume of grant dollars gathered speaks to the relevance of the work that the professor is conducting. If the grants submitted:awarded ratio is low, chances are he/she is completely off base in the mind of the reviewers.
In this day and age, grants are absolutely neccessary to fuel the hiring of graduate students, research associates, post-Docs if multiple year, general expenses related to laboratory needs, necessary travel to the pertinent societies, etc.
My particular appointment is 20% research, 70% Extension and 10% teaching (I teach one graduate level course). I would suspect that I spend @ 30% of my time looking for funding to support the research facility that I am the faculty manager in charge of. Of course, success in this arena helps me to deliver the necessary subject matter content (research results) that I am responsible for with Extension.

I totally agree. In fact, anyone can rate a professor, you do not even have to be a student.
If they are going to pick on one weapon used in a murder, then they should pick on every last one. They just want guns out of the hands of the patriotic people. An unarmed population is easier to control.
The gun is an inanimate object incapable of committing an act of violence in and of itself, just as a fence post, knife, screwdriver, baseball bats, etc are. It takes an evil minded human to pick them up and use them for illegal purposes to commit that act of murder.
All the above are used to commit murder, but the anti-gun nut jobs don't want to understand that fact.
I am a responsible gun owner, my 38 when not on my hip or bedside, along with the other guns are kept locked in a metal gun safe. And when the grand and great grand come over they are all locked up! I want no accidents because they are curious.
I am as much pro gun as I am pro life. One of those bitter clingers to my Bible, guns, I'll leave the trucks to those who like them...I drive a mini-van or a Corola coupe, depending on what I have to do for the day.
I call it the INJUSTICE system. It heavily favors the criminal, not the victims or victims family. I spent 16.5 years using their stats to keep Jeremy's killer behind bars! TN is one of the few states that now has Constitutional Rights for Victims. I am proud to have been part of the process to get that for us.
I saw that quote too. Some students loved her, others didn’t. Interesting. I always go to rate my profs when something happens with an academic.

Thank you, it was and still is with us even 20 years later. It colors your entire world from what you say to what you listen to and watch on TV. It made me even more pro gun than I was before. I grew up with them in the house as Dad hunted, we’d never of thought to touch one of them.
