Senator Byron Dorgan has already decided not to seek reelection, and now a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds Congressman Earl Pomeroy in close match-ups with two of his three likeliest Republican challengers.
Rick Berg, a Fargo businessman and state representative, now leads Pomeroy 46% to 40%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and 11% are undecided.
Kevin Cramer, a state public service commissioner who has run unsuccessfully against Pomeroy twice before, now is in a virtual tie with the congressman. Pomeroy earns 45% support to Cramers 44%. Three percent (3%) favor another candidate, but just seven percent (7%) are undecided.
Pomeroy, the states only congressman since 1993, fares better against Bismarck insurance agent Paul Schaffner, leading that Republican hopeful 47% to 38%. In that race, five percent (5%) like another candidate, and 10% are undecided.

More good news. The ‘Rat Party’s Federal success in North Dakota may be coming to an end.
What about Pomeroy’s very conservative nephew who called Rush’s show about a dozen years ago? Wonder if he’s old enough to run for the job?
Much of the state resents the domination of Imperial Cass County and will vote against anyone from Fargo for that reason alone. Conrad, Dorgan and Pomeroy all started to rise in state politics during the competent tenure of North Dakota's last truly honorable and capable Democrat-NPL Governor Art Link.
At that time, RINO leadership dominated the state GOP, whixh is why I was a Democrat at that point in my life.
It will be nice if the 2011 congress starts out with Conrad all alone.
Kevin Cramer will probably be the GOP nominee.
Although if Berg is polling better maybe it should be him!
Great news, when is the primary?
June 8th.
