WHNT NEWS 19 Staff Reports 4:37 PM CST, February 12, 2010
HUNTSVILLE, AL - There are reports of a shooting at UAHuntsville, at the Shelby Center. We understand the campus is in lockdown.
Sources close to the investigation tell WHNT NEWS 19 two people were killed and two are in critical condition. We understand two people are in custody, possibly a woman and her husband. They're not sure if there are other suspects out there. We've also been told all the victims are faculty.
Prayers up for the victims and their families.
Just heard 4 dead - 10 wounded....and a middle aged woman has been arrested....My dad was telling me what he’d heard and I responded “bet it’s an ef’ing lib professor”
I’ve eyewitnessed a school administrator go off on parents, completely losing control of herself (the parents were calm), so a faculty member going off the deep end and taking it up a notch by shooting their coworkers is not a surprise to me.
Me too Jay. I grew up in Huntsville and still consider it one of my hometowns. Lot of memories from there during WWII.
Update: Woman in Alabama college shooting opened fire in faculty meeting when she learned she wouldn’t get tenure, police say - WAFF-TV
What a sad sad sad day for the University of Alabama....
Thanks, halo. I’m watching WHNT....but I’ll try to click back in forth.
The original report indicated two were in custody...I think it said her husband?
yep. That political maneuvering is exactly why I left academia.
Sounds like she was part of the entitlement generation. She KNEW she was entitled to tenure. Gratitude for what one receives is sorely lacking in many of the younger ones. I hope she gets the death penalty.
Fox?
We all know that most college profs are liberals, but we can’t be so sure that this one is a lib. They don’t normally carry guns. Also if she was a lib then tenure would have been automatic. If there is even a hint that she is a conservative, we won’t hear the end of it. If she is a lib, we won’t hear anything about it after today.
What do you mean private sector? UAH is part of the University of Alabama.
I have a former Prof friend who was relieved she has tenure when the job cuts started coming in the private sector. She, of course, voted for Zero. She deosn’t see the correlation. I told her, in the real world the rest of us have to consistently perform well or we could lose our jobs. She is no longer a friend.
True...this can go both ways.
I wonder what length of time UAH required before one is up for tenure? My hubby had to teach for three years at his workplace before he was eligible.
So what dept is this woman in? Sociology? Psychology?
Glenn Beck was just discussing the 'entitlement' crowd on his show tonight...one of the 'consequences' of the public school system.
