Look, my youngest brother is a giant douche. (And I’m the only girl and seven years younger than him.)
It’s a long story...but he wanted to conduct Mom’s service. Now, I DID convince him to let my uncle commit Mom at the graveside...but he had music he wanted to play...and things he wanted to say....and no preachers.
So he played “ I can only imagine”by Mercy Me to start and I lost it. I know the song. I lost it...but luckily I had my Mom’s sister beside me to hold me.
Then my brother spoke and played two other songs...I dunno what they were...some of his favorite Christian songs....it went on forever...
Fortunately, my Mom’s family were there to lend a bit of dignity and pay nice tributes before the close of the service.
I had told my brother that I went through photos of Mom and I thought it would be hard to assemble the album I took to the funeral...but she was in every photo just smiling at the camera...
so...I asked if (and I didn’t know he was going to have a bunch of music)...I asked if we could close the service with “Smile.”
And...you know...he’s not so couth...
as it came on he said (in the funeral)...”It’s the Jerry Lewis telethon song!”
I tell ya...nothing but class in these genes.
You picked Navy or did you go private industry? My dad turned it down and went immediately into NASA - as a aquanaut. He said he will never forget the day he turned down the Marine commission he was berated like a school child.
I have a twin sister that I don’t talk to, so I can see where you’re coming from. But I have to tell you, my mom is gone, I only have dad, we are all of different faiths growing up, when he goes, it will not be a religious service, and he’s ok with that.
Wow! That is so cool! I chose Navy. As far as I could see it was the most technologically savvy of all the services, including the Air Force (in which my father’s brother was a lifer and did some cool stuff).
Not the berating part.
...”And the really big Bear”. Until the big bear farted flames from its big butt. What was that all about?
...”And the really big Bear”. Until the big bear farted flames from its big butt. What was that all about?
“I went to high school in Europe, at an international school”
What a wonderful experience.
I was reading your other posts here - I noticed all of us on this post had a mother gone and dad left behind. Funny how life works ... I was an only child so it was waay harder on me about my mom. Plus I was this hard head who has a very hard time with my temper. Let’s just say that big families are sometimes not all cracked up to be. I love them all but dad and I could not wait till they all got out of our hair. So we could just “be” again.
See what I was saying about women? They have bad tempers :-)
Did you read the part of treating them like queens?
Gotta go. Had a nice time chatting.
Gotta go. Hope to chat again.
It doesn’t matter what religion you share.
It just matters that you are family.
And sometimes, family isn’t that close. We tend to think it ought to be and (for me as the girl) I wanted to make peace with everyone and have everyone get along.
All I got was shat on in the process.
My youngest brother actually called me and asked (there was a will made in California when he had Mom...before he dumped her penniless in Illinois 3 years ago...after squandering the whole estate she and my father had amassed in Europe...) ...well, there are MANY things in the will to me that aren’t there. And the will stipulates for that...of course. My youngest bro got THREE times the amount of itemized items in this will....
And THAT was even ok. I was willing to be ok with it.
But see, my mom had a diamond ring from Dad...the only one she ever wore,
She had brain damage from a tumor removal in 1996. And she left her WEDDING ring to my youngest brother’s wife. Now that was wrong.
And she has said since she has been here that that is not what she wanted. She wanted me to have the ring. THE ONLY WEDDING RING MY MOM EVER WORE AND I AM HER ONY DAUGHTER.
So...SINCE my brother dumped her here...and there are alot of things in the will he made that aren’t going to be passed along...you’d think...
...well, he would be ok with it now, right?
WRONG. He called me the day we left the funeral and told me I needed to send him “that ring”.
Because “It’s in the will to (my SIL) so it goes to ME now!”
I said, “No, I love you...bye..) and that’s the last I have talked to him.
My mom’s wedding ring. He’s divorced and has two sons (and has squandered thousands of dollars worth of property to a gambling addiction)...
And he wants MY MOTHER’S wedding ring.
You may be bitchy about women right now...but let me tell you...
men can be a bitch.
Still dragging on w/speeches at 11:28pm PST...why wasn’t this televised LIVE for the West coast?!?! (Vancouver is PST) Should have been “too bad so sad” for the East coast for once!! Get to the torch!!
NAFTA trade....DC gives snow, Vancouver gives higher temps.
Terry Foxs mother is 99% confirmed to light the cauldron tonight...Gretzky has said it wont be him.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Gretzky....liar-liar torch on fire !!!!
Well, 3 out of 4 torches on fire :)
I hope that no more athletes are killed! The Opening Ceremonies haven’t even started yet, when an athlete has died already! Bad start. Now Georgia is “on everybody’s mind”-Meaning the country of Georgia and not the state of Georgia.
Shooting stars, I think. It was supposed to be a constellation, after all. :-)
If you live near the Canadian border, you can probably catch it live on CBC.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Nope. CBC lost the 2010 contract and it now belongs to CTV and a conglomerate of sub-contracter channels (TSN, Sportsnet, and TheScore).
CBC lost curling’s season-of-champions, CFL, and even the Hockey Night In Canada theme song (of all things). They mostly televise figure skating, track and field, and hockey.
