Port St. Lucie's school system has an interesting way of dealing with disruptive students.

The same school district that allowed an autistic boy to be voted out of kindergarten class for being a bit unruly has a far worse penalty for 6-year-old little girls.

Handcuffs and straight jackets.

The schools have violent mentally retarded children (now misclassified as “autistic’) dumped into the classrooms by lawsuits.

True. Kids are getting worse every year. This may very well be my last year in the classroom. Most of it goes back to parents not teaching their little helions to behave before they get to school.

Good catch on "through". And to think he's a reporter.

How did you make that heart?

Autistic is not the same thing as mentally retarded. You can be a genius and be autistic.

I can't remember the last time I had to spank one of my kids. It has been several years. It works well. My kids are 9,10,11,14 and are a joy to be around.

The schools today are quick to refer little boys to the doctors for meds, so they don't act like little boys and conform to the very feminine grade school setting. Boys and girls are DIFFERENT. IF my son is having trouble sitting down at the table to do his school work, he can do it standing up, or can "take a lap" to burn off some energy so he can sit still and concentrate. Boys need to be boys.

Hauling a 6 year old out in handcuffs is stupid, unless the child poses a threat to herself, and at six what kind of threat could she pose.

I went out with a teacher who claimed that it was the "No child left behind" program that has pushed for "inclusiveness" to include developmentally disabled in regular classrooms. Was she right or was it really lawsuits?

There is nothing like a few seconds under cold shower (with all cloths on) to stop a child's “temper tantrum”. Just have to have the “will”. Usually only have to apply once.

My ex-wife is a teacher, when we were first married a 2nd grader tried to push her down the stairs, the police made the decision to handcuff the child to teach him a lesson. The local rag (and a school board member) ripped into my ex for the treatment the police gave the child. Turns out the one officer that took the child into custody was friends with the family and made the decision to try and scare the child straight and handcuffed him.

This case is far different then the one involving me ex. These “teachers” and the administration of the school need to learn how to handle kids before they’re allowed back in their school. This case disgusts me.

My mother teaches jr. high at a private school and they couldn't escape "inclusion". She gets one or two kids every couple of years. Some times they are very functional others just sit in the class, and do alternate work. Creating twice as much work for my mother, all so the kids get a letter of attendance in school. Schools should be based more on academic ability and less on chronological age.

If this 6 year old had "mental" issue, she should of had someone in the class with her.

Get your kid out of government schools. If you don’t have the money, find it. Nothing is more important than your children.

Do you know if the “inclusion” was caused by lawsuits or by the “No Child Left Behind” program.

It wouldn’t surprise me to learn “inclusiveness” was caused by lawsuits and blamed on the “No Child Left Behind” program that the teacher unions don’t like because of the accountability. But I want to know for sure.

I don't know, but would guess they go hand in hand.

We homeschool and I don't have to deal with it. I know it frustrates my mother some. Any one who teaches jr. high for 30 years deserves a medal.

i m a publik scewl teechur, and I wish our administrators would do this with some of our thugs. The problem is that if we get rid of these students, then we don’t get gubmint money for them. When teachers send them out for misbehavior, they are simply put in time out for a couple of days.

There was a time when 6 year olds did not attend school. They were home with their families.

Let's look at this:

Schools in many ways are like prisons. Children who have committed no crime have all of their First Amendment Rights trashed. They can not speak freely, or publish, their right to freely practice or express their religion is crushed. And...It is the government who choose with whom they will assemble.

They are driven around in buses that look like work gang buses. Their schools look like minimum security prisons. They are marched around in groups like prisoners. Like prisoners they are told by the government when they can eat, rest, exercise, and use the bathroom. In some “schools” the bathrooms are actually less safe than prison bathrooms.

Then when a child ( who has committed no crime) rebels he is hauled off to the “big house”.

This 6 year old simply hasn't adjusted yet to prison life.

Amazing; a good idea, perhaps, to send Gitmo retirees to school in Port St. Lucie. Wonder if they have a secure Court House as well. Would love to see those terrorists show up in Court in straight jackets. . .

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

It’s been interesting on FR lately.

Between the PS defenders getting in a snit, the blame the victim crowd who will probably find the thread and wonder what she did to deserve this, and the trolls who are just generally being nasty and attacking everyone, let’s just say it hasn’t been boring....

My 10 year old nephew came home from this week with a huge bite mark on his arm from one of his classmates. Can you believe this? Isn’t 10 a bit old for biting? I thought that kids get over that around 5.

Exactly. I've seen these students in my kids' classrooms and once, my oldest (girl) was shoved against a wall by one of these kids who was raging out of control.

Some have suggested corporal punishment but you can't have that in a "Zero-tolerance" system. Every child would get spanked regardless of whether they did anything wrong or not.
