Sheriff Joe Says: Come Meet J.D. Hayworth!
Tucson Weekly ^ | 2/11/10 | Jim Nintzel

Posted on 02/11/2010 10:15:39 PM PST by pissant

Imagine my surprise just now when I picked up the phone and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was on the other line! At first I thought it was Max Cannon pulling another prank, but then I realized it was really was Sheriff Joe, or at least a robot version of him, inviting me to downtown's El Presidio Park at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, to meet J.D. Hayworth, the former congressman who is chewing Sen. John McCain's ass.

Robo-Joe said something to the effect that McCain had supported amnesty and cap-and-trade legislation. Oh, that McCain! Such a lib. (BTW: Arizona's senior senator is scheduled to be our guest on Arizona Illustrated's Friday Roundtable next Friday, Feb. 19.)

Anyway, thanks the invite, Sheriff. You can bet I'll be there!

Joe sadly, is too old now. But he has more energy in his big toe than McCain. Just watch the fireworks.

Well, the problem again, is Sarah. No question that Brown a moderate (but I suspect he will be fine in Massachussets for a long time - and maybe beyond the State as well) but there is surely irony to have the 'lady Reagonite' on the same team in Arizona - a team running against a Conservative Repub candidate.

I hope her judgment is better, when it comes to Campaign 2012.

“Think if McCain were to lose; the pundits will blame Sarah the most; and challenge the strength of Brown as well and ‘of course’. No really pretty picture here. J.D. does have a fight on his hands; when he really shouldn’t. .”

Nobody out here in Arizona cares a rats behind about Brown,
But Sarah is very popular....a household name, with a bully pulpit via Fox News. If Hayworth loses by a couple of points, Sarah will be the reason....all by her lonesome!

I don’t think that she owes Mc Cain squat. True, he did pick her, but, after that he stabbed her in the back and sabotoged her, or had his henchmen do it at every opportunity.

She has everything to lose and nothing to gain by supporting McCain. I do believe that the voters of Arizona will re-elect him. I hope they won’t,but, as soon as he is re-elected he will turn on her again. Just as Spectre did President Bush. As for the Republican Party establishment supporting Mc Cain, I would expect nothng less from them. They are all closet Democrats anyway and the only reason that they are not members of the Democrat Party is that the Democrats won’t allow them to join.

That's hardly a fair fight, I almost feel sorry for the RINO's. Nah, not really.

That one was good for my morning chuckle. Thanks.

For me, she made her biggest mistake by even AGREEING to run on the PROGRESSIVE/PRO-AMNESTY McCain ticket...a HUGE red flag warning, IMO. She’s continued to support him and his agenda for a pro-amnesty path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Unlike many freeper fans, She WON’T be getting ANY support from me.

May be more than wrong; but can only think that these moves are meant to better place Sarah into hierarchy of Republican Party; that this MO is less a 'pay back' to McCain, perhaps; than a 'pay up' to Party; or to be appreciated as such.

If GOP does not extend in time, a helping hand; then we have only to wait and see what Sarah's next move will be and to 'where'; and no need to spell that one out.

Well, you are right and no question Sarah with McCain will have an edge. . .albeit Brown can inspire contributions from elsewhere;if little more; but he does cut a great image; regardless of local sentiment - or lack thereof. lol/sigh. . .

"I hope so. But so long as Mc Cain loses I will br happy".

I don't think McCain will lose.
He's still an American Soldier; a hero. John's stature overshadows his daughter's and his wife's idiotic statements.

And, he has Sarah Palin on his side. That's key. If Sarah helps influence McCain this time around (instead of his camp influencing her) then J.D. does not stand a chance. If Sarah switches support to J.D. then J.D. will win easily, imo.

I still do not fully understand why Sarah Palin is supporting John McCain. Loyalty?

JD has a secret weapon.......Meghan McCain

Could be wrong; but think Meghan is her own worst enemy. You cannot control your children - we know this, thanks to the 'worst of the Reagan's; Ron and Patti. . . Am guessing that both 'Mom and Dad' McCain are however - unlike the rest of the Reagan family - proud of Meghan; and let her know it.

McCain is a hero only because he got shot down and both his father and grandfather were USN Admirals. He was third from the bottom in his class at the USNA.

Think it is NOT loyalty; but a practical necessity - her dues to pay to re-enter the upper eschelons - perhaps - of Repub Party; if only eventually and 'if' at all.

Personally, I don't care what his USNA standings were. His actions in the service spoke loud and proud.

I do not think that he will lose either.

If Sarah supports him, I will not support her. Becaues I will know that they are cut from the same bolt of cloth, just different patterns. As the old saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.

“We can’t forget the Jack Abramoff problem too, which McCain could use against him. How much damage would that do to JD in the general election if he is able to beat McCain in the primary?”

That is to J.D’s advantage. Or should be to anyone with a brain. Have you not read this?

Indians, Lobbyists and Arizona Politics...OH MY!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2440173/posts[snip]

The scene is the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut . The year 2000. The congressman has $100 chips stacked high, having a grand time at the crap table. He likes to gamble and isn’t afraid to show some temper when he loses. Along for the ride are his campaign manager and one of the two biggest lobbyist handing out campaign money from various Indian tribes who was also a 20 year friend of the legislator.

By now we’ve all heard about the money J.D. Hayworth received from an Indian tribe by way of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who was one of the two big boys in Indian tribe money lobbying.

Pot, meet Kettle....

However, it was not J.D. Hayworth, nor Jack Abramoff at the crap table. It was Senator John McCain, campaign manager and Indian lobbyist in his own right, Rick Davis, along with Scott Reed, now the one remaining big time lobbyist handling the tribes and their money.

National Review wrote:

“That would be this New York Times story, describing McCain playing the craps table with Rick Davis and Scott Reed. Davis is a longtime McCain friend and associate, currently his campaign manager, who runs a lobbying firm that represented Indian tribes with casino interests. Reed also worked as a lobbyist for Indian tribes, but he was also Bob Dole’s campaign manager in 1996, where McCain is a top surrogate”

Another article further describes the scene.

” McCain was betting at a casino he oversaw as a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and he was doing so with the lobbyist who represents that casino.

The visit had been arranged by the lobbyist, Scott Reed, who works for the Mashantucket Pequots, a tribe that has contributed heavily to McCain’s campaigns and built Foxwoods into the world’s second-largest casino. Joining them was Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager. Their night of good fortune epitomized not just McCain’s affection for gambling, but also the close relationship he has built with the gambling industry and its lobbyists during his 25-year career in Congress.

As a two-time chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, McCain has done more than any other member of Congress to shape the laws governing America’s casinos, helping to transform the once-sleepy Indian gambling business into a $26-billion-a-year behemoth with 423 casinos across the country.

As factions of the ferociously competitive gambling industry have vied for an edge, they have found it advantageous to cultivate a relationship with McCain or hire someone who has one, according to an examination based on more than 70 interviews and thousands of pages of documents.

McCain portrays himself as a Washington maverick unswayed by special interests, referring recently to lobbyists as “birds of prey.” Yet in his current campaign, more than 40 fund-raisers and top advisers have lobbied or worked for an array of gambling interests - including tribal and Las Vegas casinos, lottery companies, and online poker purveyors.

When rules being considered by Congress threatened a California tribe’s planned casino in 2005, McCain helped spare the tribe. Its lobbyist, who had no prior experience in the gambling industry, had a nearly 20-year friendship with McCain.”

Hayworth’s explanation of the Abramoff contribution is spelled out by him here. Hayworth got direct contributions of $2,250 from Abramoff, which was donated to charity, Hurricane Katrina relief. The Indian tribe in question insisted the money they gave by way of Abramoff be kept by Hayworth.

Hayworth’s exoneration of any criminal charges, by the US Dept. of Justice is in a letter from them here.

The McCain campaign is trying to use this non issue to destroy Hayworth, while indulging in bigger tribe money and underhanded backroom deals far surpassing anything Jack Abramoff pulled.

McCain has been chair of the Indian affairs committee since 2005, having served on it for many years prior. He used this position to bring down Abramoff, who was second only to handing out tribe dollars to McCain’s man Scott Reed. Some have speculated the move was not so much to rid politics of the likes of Abramoff, but to gain a monopoly on tribe campaign dollars. There’s even a book, ‘The Perfect Villain: John McCain and the Demonization of Jack Abramoff’ speculating McCain’s motives.
