Patrick Kennedy won't seek reelection
Politico ^ | 2/11/10 | JOHN BRESNAHAN

Posted on 02/11/2010 7:37:56 PM PST by ricks_place

Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the last member of his illustrious family currently serving in Congress, will announce on Friday that he is retiring, according to Democratic insiders.

Kennedy, 42, was first elected to Congress in 1994. He did a stint as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 1999-2000 cycle but has not served in the House Democratic leadership beyond that.

His congressional tenure was marked by repeated substance abuse problems, including a drunk-driving incident in 2006. He entered a rehab facility at that time and again in 2009.

Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), the congressman's father, passed away last year. Democrats unexpectedly lost his seat last month to Republican Scott Brown.

"40 More Years: How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation".............
LOL!!

DimocRATS aren't meant to "rule" anything. Not even a Taco stand. They don't have it in them; never have; never will. With oBama's failure they will learn the truth again. Sit on the sidelines and keep your mouths shut.

New Republic Speculates Patrick Kennedy Could Grow Into Great Political Leader
NewsBusters ^ | August 28, 2009 | P.J. Gladnick

When one first looks at this article in The New Republic speculating about if Ted Kennedy’s son, Patrick Kennedy, could grow into a great political leader, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking it was a satirical story written by either Scott Ott or some other humor columnist.

Politico's pic tonight ... hoisted by demented Dim idiocy .. and Camelot is finally DEAD ... halleluja!

“My father instilled in me a deep commitment to public service,” Kennedy says. “Now, having spent two decades in politics, my life is taking a new direction, and I will not be a candidate for reelection this year."

LOL ..

They knew he wouldn’t win. As much as I love seeing another Kennedy drop out of it (pun intended), I am more concerned with them running someone who stands a chance of winning.

You hit the nail right on the head. The wave in this country right now is anti-incumbent. In this case incumbent doesn't mean a D or R in front of their name, but all of them have to go.

Too bad he’s stepping down/being pushed out. He would have lost. Now, as in so many other districts, the rats will have more viable candidates to lie their way into office.

Actually, Camelot is for sale. AKA the rotting hulk of a compound once known as Hickory Hill. Home-site of the mythic Kennedy touch football games. On the market for many years, allegedly to cover the multi-million dollar payoff to the Kopechne family for their silence. There have been no buyers. Like the Kennedy legacy, Camelot decomposes into decay.

Can it be bought by some Wealthy Conservatives and torn down and made an annex for the Heritage Foundation, CATO Institute, or Educational annex of Hillsdale College?

Yes it is a dish best served cold....

Now he can concentrate on his substance abuse and mental illness — plus, he was probably going to get his butt kicked in RI by a Scott Brown-type person. Beau Biden also dropped out of Delaware Senate race... Hmmm... I wonder why.

Who takes out an ad to annnounce that they’re retiring from running for a U.S. Congress seat?? Only a Kennedy...
