Medina Campaign: Dead End?
Gateway Pundit/ First Things Blog ^ | Feb 11, 2010 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 02/11/2010 12:13:18 PM PST by GeronL

This was a textbook case on how to end a campaign in one interview. Tea Party candidate Debra Medina imploded today on the Glenn Beck radio show. The Republcian candidate for governor is a 9-11 Truther. She said questions still remain. Trail Blazers reported:

TV and radio commentator Glenn Beck dismissed the candidacy of Debra Medina when she left open the door to a conspiracy fringe group that believe the U.S. government might have been behind the 9-11 destruction of the World Trade Center.

Beck, a leading personality for conservatives, asked her point blank if she believed such a theory.

“I don’t have all the evidence there, Glenn,” Medina replied. “So I’m not in a place – I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There’s some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there so I’ve not taken a position there.”

He then asked if she would disavow people on her campaign team that held such a theory.

“I’m certainly not into mind control or thought policing people,” Medina said. “I don’t see us having a team of radical individuals, if you will.”

When she signed off the program, Beck let out a long Oooh.

I heard the interview. It was a hatchet job. She flat out denied being a "truther", so Beck rephrased in more general and vague terms until he received a reply that he could deliberatedly misinterpret as an "admission".

I have to agree with this post more than the posts that claim she blew the answer. I don't know a lot about Medina yet, but was hoping to learn more today. If you listen to the interview, she was clearly trying to not answer that question and steer the conversation back to issues on her talking point list. No big surprise there. Beck twisted her response several times and interrupted her when she seemed to be trying to distance herself from the issue. Here's the response posted on her website after the interview:

I was asked a question on the Glenn Beck show today regarding my thoughts on the so-called 9/11 truth movement. I have never been involved with the 9/11 truth movement, and there is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11. I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way. No one can deny that the events on 9/11 were a tragedy for all Americans and especially those families who lost loved ones.

On balance then, we have a non-answer to a biased interviewer and a direct answer on a web page with more time to collect her thoughts. I really like Glenn Beck generally, but he can make an ass of himself from time to time. Today was more of a Beck "ass moment" than a Medina implosion. Let's see if she can get into a run-off first, then hope we get a 1-on-1 debate to see who will make the better gov.

Yep. I think that has blown it now. We’ll see very soon. This may well be the event to give Perry the win without a runoff. But I don’t think that will be the case.

This thread is so obvious.

The Perry campaign at work, no doubt.

My posts get censored for daring to question the government, you know, the one working hard, right this second, to enslave your sorry *sses?

Look in the mirror folks the next time you find yourselves wondering why the country is falling apart.

You party hack, pseudo-conservatives are digging your own graves.

Your government is not your friend, and Perry is the same ‘ol RINO that has allowed the left to run rampant.

Vote for Perry! You deserve him.

I am not a Perry or KBH supporter.

I despise both of them.

where were all you medina supporters at when Van Jones was getting hammered for being a truther??

I am not a Medina supporter
however, I find both Perry and Hutchinson to be unacceptable alternatives,
and Beck's lame interview genuinely struck me as a hatchet job...
(it's why I rarely listen to media boobs like him anyway.)

And no I’m no Jones supporter but if your going to be consistent then there should have some freepers supporting Jones “questioning of the goverment” and I don’t recall any.

Oh lordy, lordy, lordy....
Pls grant me the patience to treat a newbie kindly....

(Uuunnnggghhh!!! How did I know it was a newbie???)

Anyway, I know of no requirement for a FReeper to be "consistent" by defending a left-wing marxist like Van Jones.

So should the gov’t take money away from you and give it to another so they can pay income tax too?

Gee I guess the votes of all those other voters don’t get counted?
Odumbo sure paid ACORN for a ton of votes

Too Bad. I was a supporter too... until THIS! Looks like we are stuck with Perry. And for but ONE reason. NO ONE ELSE RAN. If any other, even state rep level would have run, they could have been the next Scott Brown type winner. Oh, well, I’d rather have a half lying semi-repentant RINO Perry than a NUTTER Truther.

Yeah, I know, “conservatives” prefer a compromise involving the murder of babies, but certainly not one involving the questioning of their government’s ability to do evil.

I’ll take the baby-butcher, Scott Brown, over the “whackjob” Medina any day.

Go GOP!

I assume you would have no problem voting for the animal loving teetotaler who didn’t chase women, was a decorated war hero and campaigned on a promise to make our country great again.

She must be a moron not to know that it’s poison to do anything over than condemn the “truther” point of view. “Fastest way back to 4%” indeed.

She may or may not be a truther but even if she’s not her answer shows a stunning lack of political intelligence. I don’t see how she can save herself.

Ugh and she referred to herself in the third person. ;d

Perry still doesn’t look good though. He’s a lucky man, he’ll win the election by default .

Medina still doesn’t understand how she completely killed her campaign. Even her response misses the point. The question was never about people’s rights to question the government, Ms. Medina. Beck was very clear, he had gotten emails from people concerned that she was a ‘truther’. Question: Are YOU (Debra Medina) a TRUTHER, yes or no? It’s a very simple question. It’s either NO, I don’t believe the Bush administration purposely planned and/or assisted in the destruction of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11, or yes, I believe they are or ‘suspect’ they may be. By answering anything but NO, she as much as said YES. Campaign over, pack up, go home.

It’s gonna be either Perry or KBH. Perry’s far from perfect, but KBH is worse, so if I lived in TX I’d vote for Perry so that KBH doesn’t get a second bite at the apple in April.

The dipwad [Glen Beck] doesn't even have the jour[n]alistic credentials or integrity..

Eh?

I've read two of "dipwad's" books, and it appears he is well learned in the English language, history, has the capacity for reasoned thought, and proffers sound analysis after the presentation of cited facts.

What exactly is the proper resume' of the "credentialed" journalist? To be published? check. To have an audience in a communications medium? check. To draw others into debate over one's announced opinions? check. Or, to have gone to University and accrued a degree in "Journalism", like sports caster K.Olberman? Aaaaahn! Sorry, that's wrong on too many levels, Bill...

I don’t know, henkster, but I’m starting to wonder whether I have changed, or if it’s this forum that has changed.

Or maybe the elitists are right and Americans are all just sheep.

One thing is for certain, we are the luckiest creatures on the planet to have been born in the country that the founding fathers set up.

It was the greatest opportunity of all time. To forge a government tabula rasa, based on individual freedom.

From inception to the final shots fired, the odds against it were ENORMOUS!

It was amazing, and I will die a fortunate man. I am an American.

Now, however, someone is going to have to “force” us to remain free—we’re not going to do it on our own it seems.

Dramatic, I know. But I’m old fashioned like that.

The only hope we have is change from status quo back to the founders’ vision (to borrow from an enemy).

The same ‘ol Republicans are going to give the same ‘ol government that gave you the same ‘ol un-American leftists.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of what?

Oh, please. If ever there was a softball question that only a nutjob could boot, it's whether there was a 9/11 conspiracy. He probably saw her remove her tin hat before the interview and knew exactly where to go.

Gov. Rick Perry has released a statement in response to Debra Medina's comment on the Glenn Beck show on Thursday.

Perry said, "Today's comments were an insult to the thousands of Americans who lost loved ones on 9/11 and the military men and women who are overseas protecting our country. President Bush worked tirelessly to protect our nation from additional terrorist attacks and anyone who would suggest 9/11 is a conspiracy involving the Bush administration should be ashamed."

GO get her Rick!

One can still cast a protest vote. The other two alternatives aren’t so great, either.
