JENKINS TWP. – A man is facing an animal cruelty charge for allegedly killing a cat because it urinated on a wood pile, according to arrest records.

Township police allege David Robbins, 60, of Heather Highlands, used a trap to kill the cat on Dec. 22.

Robbins could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Police filed the charge, a first-degree misdemeanor that was mailed to Robbins, at the office of District Judge Diana Malast in Plains Township on Monday.

I do not condone cat cruelty, but David Robbins did the right thing by trapping a stray cat peeing on his firewood.

The cats peeing on the firewood made it stink like s**t so much Robbins could not bring it into his fireplace.

I don’t get this stuff. I’d actually bury the carcass or, better yet. Put it in a plastic bag and put it in the garbage bag.

Assuming I don’t have to worry about Audi’s “green police”. ;)

Then how could I get prosecuted?

What if it was a stray cat? Perhaps a feral?

Undomesticated and/or unspayed/unneutered cats tend to pee on stuff to mark their territory.

Nosy neighbors. The guy I bought my property from in Kentucky is the most gentle guy you will ever meet. However, with a 6 month old baby in the house, one day his hound dog puppy snapped at him. He immediately got his rifle, plugged the dog and threw the carcass in the holler by the house for the turkey buzzards.

The nearest neighbor is approximately 600 yards away.

I’ve tossed cats in the garbage can before that were killed by my dog.

Yeah - a pet so loved that it is allowed to go stray - to other people’s property, causing trouble for the neighbors. I don’t know about you, but cat pee is one of the nastiest smells I know. IT nearly rivals fresh chicken litter to my nose. It is the smell of cat pee that keeps them banned from my home.

If you love your pet, you don’t let it roam freely. Period. The cat could have just as easily been hit by a car, killed by a dog, etc.

Further - many municipalities require pet owners to prove that the pet is current on rabies vaccinations, and levy fines for not complying. I don’t know many cat owners that even bother with most vaccines - and I know none that allow their cats to roam outside freely that bother with any vaccines. Isn’t that disease waiting to happen?

Many cats like to pee on tires nearly as much as dogs. But most dog urine isn’t nearly as putrid or irritating as feline wiz.

Have family with indoor “domesticated” cats - and even a neutered cat can take up the marking territory game. Have seen it too often.

I'm amused at this day and age where folks get serious jail time for killing pets or farm animals

and some freepers call for their deaths...seriously

yet meanwhile we tolerate far more serious human tragedy

i love my pets and take very good care of them but say someone shoots a stray dog or puts down an animal that needs it I don't care much

sorry...call me a cruel beast I guess or folks can just make up crap and sling at me....that's what hyperemo folks here do at times

I'll say I think like this and they will respond...’I bet you smother puppies”

hysteria and obsession over animal treatment whilst we kill our own spawn does not to me indicate a civilization in ascension

It sounds like the trap was intended to squish to death what gets caught in it.

I am still gunning for the coyotes that were threatening my american bully pup...they know that too apparently

it’s been too damn cold to lie in wait at nite with my wounded call and 22 mag

for the record...I have a mere 10 acres and let my cats go out when they want...i hope my neighbors don’t kill them but if they crew up they are welcome to zing my ol orange tom with a bb gun

This is a misuse of the statute. Animal cruelty statutes were designed to stop people from torturing or otherwise harming animals in an unnecessarily cruel way. That’s not what appears to have happened here.

If they want to outlaw killing strays, they ought to pass a law that covers that, instead of misusing other laws.

I do not understand people who move to a rural area and let their pets run loose. They are then surprised when something like this happens, or as is more often the case, their pet becomes lunch for a bobcat.
