SEATTLE Three unarmed security guards stood by and watched last month as a 15-year-old girl was punched, knocked to the ground, kicked in the head and robbed in a downtown Seattle bus tunnel. The guards' actions during the brutal attack captured on surveillance video have prompted a review of the policy that unarmed, civilian guards call police and not try to stop fights or crimes.
Surveillance video first aired by Seattle's KING-TV this week shows the attack at Westlake Station on Jan. 28. The victim appears several seconds before her attackers and sidles up to the three guards, who are standing together and talking.
When a group of teens and young adults approaches the girl, she appears to seek refuge by moving around to the other side of the guards.
Another 15-year-old girl shoves the victim and begins punching her. The two crash into a wall and then onto the floor. The assailant gets up and kicks and stomps on the girl's head. Others grab her purse, iPod and cell phone.

Couldn’t they at least have dialed 911 and gotten somebody to come and take the report?
That was such a sad video. The poor girl went and stood near the security guards, and as soon as the thugs arrived, the guards just moved away and left her. At the very end, after they had kicked her into unconsciousness, one of the guards (who looked to me like a woman, although it was hard to tell) sort of waved her hand to motion the attackers away - and then stepped back when one of the thugs came in to give the girl a final kick in the head. It was horrifying.
This makes me sick.
I was having a coffee with my wife while stopping during a bike ride in the international district of Seattle a few years back when we saw a kid (about 16 years old) run around a corner as fast as he could. About eight kids followed and I saw them, across a parking lot, catch him and start beating the living sh&& out of him. I ran over and started pulling the thugs off (the whole lot, including the victim, were Asian, btw.). A taxi driver also stopped and helped.
The kids all backed off and let the kid go.
These guards are proven worthless, thanks to this video that other thugs have now seen.
I’m speechless. Well, NOW I’m speechless. ;)
Where are the Guardian Angels would you need them?
I just watched the video. If I had been there, I WOULD HAVE PULLED THEM APART.
If they challenge your meal just jump up and begin stomping and beating a teenage girl. They will then back off and you can enjoy your food.
I was at Ft. Lewis in 1991 and heard a version of this story. It went something like this.
A Ranger Co. 1SGT lived near hilltop. He was organizing a community watch program and was informing police of suspected drug house activity on his street. One weekend a group of gang bangers started making threatening comments to him and his family, he called the Duty NCO and had the armorer open up the arms room so the barracks rats could get all their POW’s rounded up, (privately owned weaponse) and about 20 or so heavily armed rangers in webgear and body armor rolled up to his house and scared the gang bangers silly. Different versions claim shots were exchanged or not. Tacoma police refused to file charges against the Rangers, the drug house quickly stopped suspicious activity, and the neighbors all joined the crime watch group.
I can’t verify whether any of that story is true, it was just what was going around when I was there. You know how stories and rumors go...
There may be but Seattle sounds more like NYC, watch an attack and shrug.
Seems to me that the illusion of security only increases the actual danger. The victim clearly thought there was security offered but it didn’t actually exist.

Feral Amish youth running wild in the streets again....
It’s a cycle that humans repeat no matter how much evidence they see to stop it.
1st we have a war and then a resurgent economy driven by stout men and women.
Next are their softer offspring who create more wealth in ways that the education their war parents paid for gives them a techno edge.
The softter parents give us spoiled rotten brats who have no drive, just the desires to fulfill all their fantasies and create nothing and do nothing.
The worst is their spawn. Children who have no disipline, drive or goal.Coming from broken families both rich and poor.
Lastly we have another war.
and the bystanders did nothing either.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
It’s why I live in SC Montana and make sure my kids know that unless you learn to protect yourself you will one day be a victim.
It’s a horrible policy, but until we manage to effect MAJOR changes in or legal system, this will continue to be the norm for security guards, store clerks, delivery people, etc. If they’re authorized to take action while on duty, the employer (in this case the taxpayers) is automatically liable for any injuries (or death) to the employee and to any bystanders, or attackers who claim they weren’t really attackers but were trying to stop the attack. This can get into millions of dollars per incident. The only defense an employer, such as a police department, has is to be able to prove that they put the employees through extensive training and screening. This is not economically feasible for low-wage jobs that are commonly held on a short-term basis.
